JUST BEGIN

Just after I received my fee structure from Moi University for my PhD, totalling Kshs. 850,000 in 2019, I met my Dad, at Cooperative bank in Nairobi CBD.

I explained to him that I had the admission letter and he smiled.
I told him however, "Baba, there is a problem. They need Kshs. 850,000."

He held my hands, then slowly but reassuringly, said, "Just Begin, my son.

To ensure his point went home, he got into his account and gave me Kshs. 14,000 in an account that had Kshs. 20,000.

I was touched.

I added Kshs. 16000 and paid
Kshs.30,000 into the account, and my journey to PhD began.

Today, having reached the dream, I remember the words of my father...'Just Begin.'

In everything you do, always remember, JUST BEGIN.

Just begin, no matter how difficult it seems to be.

It appeared to be difficult, but as time lapsed, I realised dad was right.

At some point before my defence, I gave up.

I still had a solid Kshs.300,000 to pay and they wouldn't give me a chance for my final defence.

Then came a very unlikely help.

I had supported a lady to undertake a project evaluation two times in the year. I received her call cautiously asking me to meet her. She was carrying a brown envelope in her hand.

She began, " you will forgive me if you find my action inappropriate. For two consecutive times you have given me a job without asking for a Cent.

This is very unusual with many people. I did not know how to approach you, but I am deep with gratitude. Please accept my small gift."

I quickly peered into the envelope and saw they were two bundles, likely in hundreds. She confirmed that it was Kshs. 200,000.

I couldn't believe it. The words of my father," My son, just begin" came to mind.

Don't worry how it will end.
Just begin.

Our lesson today is on the "better option"

Let's say you got to Nairobi year 2010 January. You started paying rent of kshs 2,500 per month and with the current economy, let's say the rent has increased by 1,500; this year 2019 by 500, last year 2018, by 500, and 2017, 500. Assuming the other years rent remains constant.

Workings

From 2010 January to 2019 December.
You spend 2500*120(months ie 10 years)=300,000

From 2017 January to this year 2019 (the increased cost)
You spend 500*36(months ie 3yrs)=18,000

The total amount that you have spent so far is now kshs 318,000.

Also Assuming: You remain in the same house, for the year 2020, till December 31st, and that the Rent remains the same the whole year.
Note: It's now kshs 4,000 p.m, for 12months, it will be kshs 48,000.

In total. 318,000+48,000= ksh66,000.

The better option is that;
