As we close out what’s been a uniquely challenging year, I feel this post is merited. I’m not one for self-reflection posts by and large but this year Aleem Manji Architects celebrated 10 years of practice, and it would be remiss not to.
Starting off with Casilda, 4 townhouses that we built AMA-Kenya on, to now working with renowned developers like Centum on their project, we climbed a fair few peaks in our time, and had to navigate through some bumps too.
We’ve had to learn a few lessons, but at the same time we’ve also picked up an award or two. From times of not being sure of exactly what was needed, I’m glad to say we’re now at a point where we approach every project and challenge with confidence and foresight borne out of experience.
To all the developers who over the years have trusted us with your projects, thank you, and we look forward to being of service again soon!
To the consultants we have worked with thus far, thank you for making the journey with us, and for making the journey easier by doing what you do as well as you do.
I may be writing this post in my personal capacity but you’ll note that I am constantly using the plural ‘we’. This is because I believe, and always have, that AMA-Kenya is the people working with me. I’d like to say thank you to the ones currently with us (Jeremiah, Leo, Michael, Salman, Hani, Tom, Victor, Gilbert) as well as those who passed through and helped make us who we are today. Thank you!
For a practice that started off in a desk in the corner of my bedroom, we’ve now tackled projects the net worth of which is measured in billions of kshs. I take none of this for granted, but yet at the same time I can admit a certain level of pride in what we’ve managed in these 10 years.
In a highly challenging environment competing with long established firms and international powerhouses too, we’ve managed to carve a niche for ourselves and find ourselves a force to reckon with. This has been achieved through hard work, passion, sacrifice and an unrelenting determination to succeed.
Now that we’ve built a foundation, I’d like to think we’re just getting started.
