So we come to the end of the Nanto Shichi Daiji
And this is what we learn about the Architecture of these beautiful temples.
Their elements and main features and buildings(special and normal).
The functions of all these spaces that exist in these temples.

They all serve their purpose and are even strategically located in their plans ...which shall be shown in the next post .

Yakushiji Temple
The last on the list of the Nanto Shichi Daiji(Seven Great Temples of Nara)

As other Temples it was moved to Nara during the Asuka Period ...Japan has a history of changing its capital city multiple times
This specific temple was Founded by Emperor Temmu for the sake of bringing healing and prosperity to an I'll person lose to him. Hence the Buddha that it is associated with is the Yakushi Buddha of healing and Prosperity.

It has a main hall with a Pagoda on each side.
It has more structures like two other halls and a courtyard with an Octagonal hall at the centre.

It's Pagodas are hollow and can provide views from their openings.

The Kofukuji Temple
One of the Nanto Shichi Daiji
It has numerous structures each with importance

1. Nan'endo- This structure is considered a treasure of the temple and important Cultural Property

2.Chū-kondō(Central Golden Hall)- This structure is used to house the Golden Buddha Statue

3.Tō-kondō- It is also considered a Treasure. It also serves as a place for housing some of the other important property of the temple like statues, relics and ancient texts.

4.Gojū-no-tō(Five storied Pagoda)- In ancient and past times Pagoda were actually used as reliquaries but ended up losing this function as times progressed on. The functions of Pagodas continued changing to the point where some didn't even have access to the interior and so were used as monuments since nothing could be stored in them.

5.Sanjū-no-tō(Three storied Pagoda)- This is a smaller Pagoda with no interior access that was a Treasure of the temple

6.Hoku'endō- An Octagonal hall
7.Chahitsu Rokusō(Tea House)- This was a building whose main purpose was to house the Japanese tea Ceremony.

These are relatively smaller than most other Temples of Nara but still house alot of treasures of the Japanese Buddhist schools.
They hold from Statues of the Buddha to miniature models of Japanese Architecture
They are the Architecture of the Art they house in them.

The Todaiji Temple
One of the Nanto Shichi Daiji(Seven Great Temples of Nara)
A temple used for Buddhist practices
Founded by Emperor Shomu in 752CE
It's main hall houses one of the most important cast statues in Japan, The Daibutsu, which is a statue of the Great Buddha
This same main has also been destroyed by fire twice and is now 30% smaller than it originally was because of insufficient funding during the time of rebuilding.

The setting of this statue is actually a very good example of the close relationship between Art and Architecture(remember that post?😅) It has a very large south Gate which is used as an entrance(last picture post)
