Material is shaping the bathroom as an architectural space, transforming it from a purely functional area into an environment of aesthetic coherence. Nowhere is this more evident than in an "Volta", the washbasin presented in March 2025 by in collaboration with Swiss-born designer vesbehar who directs water into a swirling vortex to enhance the sensory experience.
With innovations like Saphirkeramik, Laufen expands the possibilities of form, precision and lightness, enabling refined geometries and a new design language. The Volta basin features minimal wall thickness and extremely tight radii, demonstrating how material innovation drives architectural expression in the bathroom.
Water plays a central role in Behar's life. A former competitive swimmer and passionate surfer, he spends hours studying the ocean's movement. This connection inspired him to slow water's domestic flow. The basin's sloping surface guides water into a circular vortex, which collects in a small hollow for tasks like tooth brushing, reducing waste.
Produced in the world's first CO2-free ceramics factory powered by solar energy, Volta unites sustainability with design innovation, marking Behar's first step into bathroom ceramics. From surfaces to proportions, every element contributes to a coherent spatial experience.
