Strip House, a harmonious blend of contemporary living and timeless design nestled within the constraints of local regulations. As the architect behind this project, we have artfully crafted a unique space that maximizes the available land, embraces sustainable principles, and delivers a rustic urban aesthetic that speaks to the soul of the city.
Site Constraints:
Our canvas was a site with varying dimensions, ranging from 18 to 21 feet in width and extending beyond 100 feet in length. These constraints became opportunities for creativity rather than limitations. The right boundary of the site is defined by a neighboring building’s blind wall, while the left boundary features a 10-foot-wide private road. Local regulations stipulate a 3-foot road reservation, prohibiting any openings towards the road. This restriction, in turn, gave birth to our concept of “blind facades,” which became a distinctive architectural feature.
Design Philosophy:
The core principle driving our design was to maximize the use of natural light and ventilation while creating open-to-sky spaces that double as indoor gardens. These spaces infuse life and greenery into the heart of the residence, breathing fresh air and a sense of tranquility into the hustle and bustle of the urban landscape.
Materials and Sustainability:
In line with our commitment to sustainability, we have carefully chosen that not only the cost of the project but also contribute to the unique character of the Rustic Urban . Exposed concrete, bricks, and wood are the cornerstones of our design, giving the house a rugged, earthy texture that stands in contrast to the urban backdrop. To enhance this character, interior furniture and light fittings have been crafted from reclaimed steel and timber, breathing new life into forgotten materials while reducing our ecological footprint.
Architectural Style:
The Strip exudes a distinctive architectural style that we like to call “rustic urban.” It seamlessly marries the charm of rural simplicity with the functionality of urban living. It’s a testament to the beauty of imperfections, the elegance of raw materials, and the warmth of reclaimed elements. This style encapsulates the ethos of sustainable living within an ever-evolving cityscape.
