This ongoing house is located in Kurunegala, a city which is surrounded by one of the largest rocks in Sri Lanka and carries a valuable historical background. With related to the macro context, the house is designed responding the major issue, which is the hot temperature of the city. The design elements were specifically inspired by the historical backgrounds in the city. This is designed to a young couple, one is a contemporary artist and the other is a photographer in profession.

Material selection were to suit the simple lifestyle of the client with close connection to the natural environment while keeping with the cost of the project minimum. Focused on low maintenance and specially considering the clients aesthetic sensibilities.

Most of the main spaces are wrapped up with hollow bricks. This creates breathing air voids, which automatically make microclimate cooler within the house. The entire house is passively ventilated. The surrounded brick, earth colors and internal gardens bring a feeling of a private oasis inside.

Location of this house is in a suburb of Colombo in close proximity to southern express way. The land has been utilized efficiently, as it’s footprint covers 4.9 perches of the total 9.1 perches , leaving more room for garden areas.

This is a multifunctional home acts as a studio and a dwelling space of an artist couple. The design successfully blends a feeling of the outdoors in to the home. The house itself acts as a sculpture where the steel structure blends with the other rustic materials used in the design. The main spaces of the house offer the artists perception of living and feeling of working in the same time.

This sculptural and majestic building is proposed on top of the hill side in Sri Lanka. It can be described as living with a breath of fresh air. The building sets on 30 perch of land, and has been set back from the road, giving the fullest view to the spectacular view of mountains.

The house is designed using predominantly earthy materials of timber and cement which also add a luxurious quality to the building. The two large walls on the boundaries itself act as the structure of the building. Minimum amount of columns separates the main spaces of the building further enhancing the minimalist quality of the entire space creating incredible spans.

The majestic open plan, living, dining and pantry along with the bedroom and bathroom adorned with timber floors and full height glass opening directly interact with the large pool which merge with the layers of trees and mountains.
