Architect Nadun Gunawardhana graduated from the University of Moratuwa before establishing themself as a practicing Chartered Architect with a range of proposed and ongoing projects. The Architect's beliefs are deeply rooted in merging the simplicity and minimalism of modernist architecture with the tropical needs of the local context and climate. Apprenticeships under esteemed architects such as

Patinda Kannangara and Isurunath Bulankufama further influenced and shaped the Architect's vision in promoting sustainability in decision-making and usage of earthy materials to provide the best homely experience for his clients through the careful design process and attention to detail irrespective of the project scale.

𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐚𝐫 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐞 – 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐬

Ongoing construction of the modular housing project designed by us. This scheme is planned to provide compact, rapidly constructed homes for individuals and families within a minimal footprint throughout various cities in the Netherlands. Timber structures and composite panel systems are prefabricated off-site to ensure efficiency and speed in assembly.

The housing units are arranged in clusters, creating small, walkable communities rather than isolated dwellings. These clusters encourage social interaction while maintaining individual privacy. Through modular planning, compact layouts, and community-oriented clustering, the project demonstrates a scalable and sustainable approach to contemporary residential design.

𝐀 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐔𝐫𝐛𝐚𝐧 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞

Designed for a couple in the field of IT, this home, located in Athurugiriya, is envisioned as a calm retreat from screen-intensive work, where greenery and natural light become part of daily living. Landscaped courts and openings are used to bring nature into view, offering visual relief and a relaxed indoor environment. The ground floor includes a two-car garage, a guest bedroom, an open living, dining, and kitchen spaces, while the upper floor accommodates bedrooms, a home office, a gym, and a TV lobby.

A shrine room at the entrance gives spiritual prominence and defines the arrival experience. The front façade is designed with a perforated screen to filter light and breeze while ensuring privacy. An earthy material palette of stone, timber, and soft neutral finishes enhances the overall sense of calmness and connection to nature.

Petco Lanka Car Audio and Showroom

This project was designed on a site of less than 3 perches, where the layout was carefully planed to maximise the limited usable area. The ground floor was allocated entirely for car-audio installation and service functions, while the first floor was arranged to accommodate the showroom, waiting area, office, and staff facilities.

A steel structure with metal cladding was used to achieve a sleek, contemporary appearance and to facilitate quick construction as requested by the client. The facade is designed in a dynamic manner on a simple structure, allowing a futuristic visual identity created in an economical way. Angular lines and a strong visual frame, ensure a high visibility along Baseline Road where the project is located. Through these strategies, a compact urban plot was transformed into a functional and distinctive commercial presence.

𝗞𝗮𝗯𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗗𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻 𝗮𝘁 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗽𝗮𝘁𝘁𝘂, 𝗦𝗿𝗶 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗸𝗮

A kabana, designed as an addition to an existing hotel property in Wilpattu, forming the first of several units planned across the site. The structure embraces the natural character of the landscape, oriented to frame the surrounding greenery and heighten the sense of immersion in the forest setting. A compact mezzanine level is incorporated within the tall A-frame form, maximizing usable space while maintaining the openness and simplicity of the structure.

Interior finishes follow a rustic, weathered palette, with natural textures and muted tones that blend with the environment and age gracefully over time. The overall architectural approach prioritizes simplicity, lightness, and minimal intervention, creating a secluded retreat that rests gently within the forest.
