Stasys Museum has been selected among 40 finalists for the 2026 EU Prize for Contemporary Architecture - Mies van der Rohe Awards!

The European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture / Mies van der Rohe Awards (EUmies Awards), founded in 1988 in Barcelona by Fundació Mies van der Rohe and the European Union’s programme to support the cultural and creative sectors, are annual awards recognizing excellence in built works of architecture in Europe.

The EUmies Awards is recognised worldwide as the most important and prestigious architecture prize in Europe. It is one of the European Union cultural prizes promoted by Creative Europe and it celebrates excellence in architectural works across Europe, highlighting the contribution of quality architecture to sustainable development and citizens’ well-being.

MUSEUM COLLECTIONS STORAGE | COMPETITION | 3rd PRIZE

CONCEPT
This project explores the combination of two distinctly different characters: a rather utilitarian - yet romantic - function and a highly poetic natural setting. The site and its context dictated the main architectural inspirations: the slope, the meadow, opening, and materiality. The building volume is laconic and clear - closed toward the street and open toward nature. It does not seek any particular stylistic expression; instead, it remains calm and restrained within the landscape. Its only message is the repetition of the terrain. The volume opens solely at the entrance.

ARCHITECTURAL IDEA
The architectural concept of the building is based on its relationship with the characteristic features of the landscape. The volume primarily responds to the existing terrain, gradually lowering toward the west. From the museum grounds, a planted roof plane becomes visible, allowing the building to merge into the meadow. The meadow itself becomes the building’s roof, offering views toward the museum, the forest beyond, and glimpses of buildings representing Lithuania’s ethnographic regions visible through openings. The building opens toward the museum side, where transparent facades invite visitors and communicate the content within.

We are honored to announce that our team has been recognized at the National Architecture Awards 2025!

Our project, Stasys Museum, was awarded the Grand Award - Project of the Year, in addition to receiving the Cultural and Social Architecture Award.

3rd PRIZE | ​VILNIUS AIRPORT ARRIVALS TERMINAL COMPETITION

The primary urban challenge is the highly varied and incomplete structure of the airport buildings, the inconsistent aesthetics, and the inactive public space network. Urban planning solutions encode complexity and integrate a public connectivity network throughout the planned area.

The entire architectural vision for the airport expansion is based on unified principles. A consistent architectural code is applied to both the planned arrivals terminal and future development stages, reflecting modernity, sustainability, and openness. This typology requires a unique architectural expression, as airport buildings undeniably become landmarks that shape identity.

In the case of the new Vilnius Airport, architecture does not aim to create mere visual impact but rather an experience, a connection with the city and country. The architecture communicates Lithuania’s core values—innovation, sustainability, and transparency [openness].
