“Superglue, or Inventing the Friend” invites a reconsideration of the relationship between art, the viewer, and the other in a world where connections are becoming increasingly fragile.
“Against the backdrop of growing polarisation and fragmentation in the world – and in our own society – the exhibition seeks to create conditions for a more open debate about the changing relationship between contemporary art and its audience in times of multiple crises. Bringing together historical and contemporary works, ‘Superglue, or Inventing the Friend’ reflects on encounters with the other through different notions of otherness, the emergence of the posthuman figure, and contemporary art itself as something not entirely knowable – something foreign. “ V.Klimašauskas
In developing the exhibition architecture, we translated this idea into space: an implied matrix of display acts as “superglue,” binding different figures into a shared social field. Here, artworks form relationships, while the visitor becomes part of this system. From the opening towards the city in the lobby, to the collective structure of the main hall, and the intimate encounters with artworks in the southern space, the exhibition unfolds as a constantly shifting network of encounters. In the northern hall, the matrix takes on a physical form, images and objects overlap across different layers, allowing relationships to be experienced through movement and shifting lines of sight. The exhibition architecture becomes a micro-society in which space, artworks, and viewers coexist within a single system.
