LA 181.
Projekta autori MADE arhitekti Plašāk Ilze Martinsone un Jānis Vēveris
Pāvilosta is the seventh smallest town in Latvia, having gained its town status only after the restoration of national independence. The town carries ambitions inscribed in its experience - memories of fishing, a lively port, and shipyards. Despite its considerable distance from the capital by Latvian standards, Pāvilosta is home to citizens with a global outlook, and yacht berths with capacities suitable even for small passenger ferries have been built here.
The client envisioned a function that could be described as a non-commercial guest house for internal use. MADE arhitekti while respectfully adhering to the site’s historical context, initially proposed dividing the new building into three separate volumes. The client wished for the new structure to poetically manifest the grandeur of nature - the power of the sea waves. Without conflict, as the client’s previous experience with building projects and respect for the architect’s work are described as exemplary empathy.

This project proposes the next generation of Pitraga Pietura by transforming a historically used fish-smoking place into a multifunctional hall. Through the adaptive reuse of a vernacular structure, the design introduces a flexible communal space that can accommodate cultural events and collective activities, while maintaining a strong connection to the site's heritage and identity.
