Title: “Navigating Work-Life Boundaries: Living at Work”
By Dale Douglas content contributor for Twitter now X Opinions Matter section
Introduction: Living at work—whether by choice or circumstance—presents unique challenges. Balancing professional responsibilities with personal well-being becomes paramount. In this article, I explore strategies for maintaining equilibrium when your workplace doubles as your living space.
Have a Life Beyond Your Workspace:
Create Boundaries: Designate specific areas for work and leisure. Physically separate your workspace from your living quarters.
Set Clear Work Hours: Define when work begins and ends. Avoid the temptation to blur these boundaries.
Prioritize Self-Care:
Quality Sleep: Prioritize restful sleep. Set a consistent sleep schedule and create a calming bedtime routine.
Nutrition and Exercise: Nourish your body with balanced meals and incorporate physical activity into your day.
Time Alone: Allocate moments for solitude. Disconnect from work-related stressors.
Unplug Completely: Use your days off to disconnect from work emails, calls, and tasks.
Engage in Hobbies: Pursue activities you enjoy outside of work. Rediscover hobbies or explore new ones.
Mindful Work Habits: Be intentional about work-related activities. Avoid overworking or constantly checking emails.
Clear Communication: If you’re living at work due to unique circumstances, communicate openly with colleagues and superiors.
Safety and Legal Considerations:
Emergency Preparedness: In case of emergencies (e.g., fire, natural disasters), someone should know you’re present.
Remember, work-life balance is essential for overall well-being. Whether you’re navigating temporary chaos or embracing a unique lifestyle, prioritize self-care and maintain healthy boundaries. 🌿🏢
During the Pandemic millions of workers migrated from their places of work to their home offices as many cities were locked down to contain infection from spreading. This was ideal for a large number who were able to care for family matters and be able to earn an income at the same time. The balance of down time and setting a home/office schedule was also a plus.
I have been working from my residence for seven years now and would dread going back to commuting to work. For me it gave me time to share with my pet dog who hated being left alone when I was away. Setting my own hours was a big plus and though I should have had more personal time, work was a priority and being close to the office and having all my tools within reach saved valuable time and allowed me to be more productive which in turn generated more income.
For those who don't have space at home to setup an office, gallery, repair shop, or a small store it is necessary to find a location to do that. Here's the problem, especially where I live, here in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. There are very few places to do this. Scouring the numerous group sites on Facebook I found one, Now this location would be perfect providing there is just one or two who would live here providing the idea was to also house your business. The ideal tenant for this would be someone just starting out with a new business or an established business wanting a second location and cost was a major factor. This property satisfies all concerns because of the reasonable rental cost. At $7500 MXN ($440 USD) a month that would break down to less than $4000 ($235 USD) to provide housing and a business location. You will be hard pressed to find a better deal with this value and in a prime location. Another advantage is the tax reduction in being able to deduct a portion of the cost as a business expense. Current law would allow a taxable deduction of $11,250 on your federal business income tax. All of us are too familiar with how often the tax code changes, so verify this information before filing your next tax return.
Those are my tips experienced through seven years of personal experience for those readers who want to LIVE AT WORK. For those living in Puerto Vallarta the listing I included is real and is currently available. You can see this property by setting up an appointment and calling +52 322 150 2957 to do so.
