Tolsa — the project behind the cover of the June–July issue of

Conceived as a home for Gabriel Orozco’s Atomist, the project explores how architecture can frame art, memory, and atmosphere into a singular spatial experience. In an issue dedicated to the cultural significance of football in Mexico, the painting becomes both centerpiece and narrative — connecting the intimacy of the home with a broader collective identity.

The conversation continues beyond the residence, into new spaces shaped around the rituals and experiences that surround the game today.

Thank you to and for the feature, and to for capturing the essence of Cuaik | CDS.

Alisio underwent a transformation as precise as it was spatial — emerging from this intervention as the hotel’s defining beach club. A surgical reconfiguration indoors opened the existing structure toward the sea, while a new system of timber pergolas — articulated across three distinct platforms — extended the program outward: a beach bar for craft cocktails, a stage animated by regional rhythms, and a collection of private cabanas where the Caribbean horizon becomes the only backdrop that matters.

Reimagining the shared spaces of Alila Mayakoba—from arrival to shoreline.

The intervention begins at the arrival pavilion, an open and porous structure defined by raw, natural materials. Organized around a central water feature and a vertical void, the space draws in light and air, evoking the spatial and atmospheric qualities of the region’s cenotes.

Within walls of La Patrona, the architecture is defined by generous timber structures and vaulted ceilings, where
exposed beams span across large communal
spaces. The interiors balance rustic character
with understated elegance: stone fireplaces
anchor the living areas, long wooden tables
invite gatherings, and built-in shelving filled
with books and objects lends the spaces a
cultivated warmth.

Set within a clearing carved from the dense pine forests of Valle de Bravo, La Comandanta unfolds as a contemporary interpretation of the traditional Mexican ranch—an architectural composition that feels both grounded in the landscape and quietly refined.

Every now and then, we step out of the studio.

Not to disconnect from work, but to reconnect with the reasons we do it.

This week the Cuaik | CDS team visited , Luis Barragán’s iconic 1968 masterpiece on the outskirts of Mexico City — a place where architecture, landscape, and light converge with almost cinematic precision.

Barragán treated color as an architectural material. The monumental pink and red planes that define the complex are not merely walls; they are sculptural gestures that choreograph space, shadow, and movement. Water mirrors the geometry, the sky becomes part of the composition, and scale transforms the everyday into something quietly monumental.

Stepping through the site is a reminder that inspiration rarely lives on a screen. It lives in atmosphere, in proportion, in the sound of water against concrete, in the way color absorbs light.

The second pavilion unfolds as a timber pergola oriented toward the terracotta façades of the Rosewood complex and the distant silhouette of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel. A woven canopy filters the Bajío light, casting shifting patterns across terracotta floors and plaster walls.

Custom and curated furnishings reinforce the project’s material language. Pieces such as Piztola chairs, upholstered in richly textured floral textiles, reference Mexican craft traditions while bringing warmth and tactility to the space.

At Pirules Garden Kitchen, the landscape is composed as a sequence of informal outdoor rooms. Gravel paths, stone edges, and layered planting guide movement while creating places to gather beneath the trees.

Two vertical stone and brick fireplaces anchor the garden, introducing warmth and orientation without enclosing the space.

As evening falls, firelight and distant views of San Miguel evoke the relaxed rhythm of Mediterranean outdoor living.

Set beneath mature pirul trees, Pirules Garden Kitchen at responds to the layered cultural landscape of San Miguel de Allende through a fragmented architectural composition.

Rather than a single volume, the program unfolds across two pavilions of contrasting density. A solid structure—defined by stone bases and warm plaster walls—houses the main dining room and kitchen, while a lighter pergola pavilion opens toward the garden.

From the enclosed dining room, terraces and shaded thresholds extend the experience outward, allowing the landscape to become a natural continuation of the dining space.
