Our visit to ShihAo Concrete Specialist in Tainan was a truly meaningful learning experience for Jiran Collective — one that brought us closer to the craftsmanship, discipline, and technical depth behind concrete.

Together with Mr. Chee, Ms. Soon, and PJC Construction, we had the chance to learn from the ShihAo fair-faced concrete team about their concrete casting process, material properties, detailing, workmanship standards, and the thinking behind each surface finish and component. More than just a visit, it was a valuable exchange of technical knowledge that helped us better understand how design intent, construction know-how, and material ex*****on can come together with greater precision.

We’ve always believed that good architecture does not come from drawings alone, but from continuous learning, close observation, and meaningful conversations with the people who work hands-on with the material every day.

A heartfelt thank you to Mr. Wu, Ms. Ye, and the ShihAo team for your warm hospitality and generous sharing, and also to Mr. Chee and Ms. Soon for making this visit and exchange possible. Experiences like this remind us that doing architecture well takes not only professionalism, but also curiosity and humility.

We are truly honored to be part of the design of Taman Kejiranan Pangsapuri Awam Seri Sarawak, which was officially launched today by YBhg. Dato’ Seri TPr. (Dr.) Maimunah binti Mohd Sharif, Mayor of Kuala Lumpur.

Since October 2023, our team has been working hand in hand with Think City, PNB Merdeka Ventures (PMV), DBKL, Intiga and the local community to reimagine this neighborhood park as a safer, more inclusive, and vibrant shared space for nearly 8,000 residents from PA Seri Sarawak and PA Loke Yew. It has been a journey of listening, collaborating, and designing with people at the heart of every decision.

Our design intent was shaped by real community needs:
🔹 Safer pedestrian access – We redesigned the shortcut lane so pedestrians can walk securely, separated from motorcycle traffic.
🔹 Active aging facilities – More fitness equipment for the elderly, encouraging healthier lifestyles and intergenerational connection.
🔹 Play with the land – Turning the natural terrain into a giant slide, giving children a fun and adventurous play experience.
🔹 Activating hidden corners – Creating a play area around the existing banyan tree to bring life and visibility to less active parts of the park, improving both vibrancy and passive safety.

This upgraded park is more than just a place for recreation — it is a platform to strengthen neighborly ties, nurture belonging, and inspire the community to collectively care for their shared environment.

Together, let’s continue shaping Kuala Lumpur into a more liveable and lovable city!

Thank you, Sze Ee for inviting us to share our passion for placemaking with the Year 2 Semester 4 architecture students at Taylor’s University. It was a pleasure to connect with such enthusiastic individuals.

At Jiran Collective, our mission is to foster vibrant, connected communities through collaboration, inclusivity, and sustainability. This approach enables us to co-create with local communities and stakeholders effectively.

We hope the students found our sharing valuable and that it inspires them to consider the social and cultural implications of their work. We encourage them to think holistically and value community input in the design process. Just as we were inspired by previous generations, we aim to cultivate a new generation of placemakers who will lead innovative and compassionate design practices.

Together, we can build livable, resilient, and joyful spaces for all, contributing to a better future through thoughtful community engagement.

boutique was designed as a harmonious blend of tradition and modernity, reflecting the brand’s commitment to preserving the art of batik-making.

At the heart of the space is a striking hanging installation of eight batik fabrics, arranged to form a roof-like structure. Each piece represents a step in the traditional batik-making process, from waxing to dyeing and coloring, offering a visual narrative of the craftsmanship behind every design. This feature also defines key zones within the boutique, such as the cashier, customer service area, and tailoring workspace.

At the center, a solid wood display cabinet — inspired by the wooden frames used in batik dyeing — anchors the space, combining functional design with a nod to traditional craft.

The layout encourages exploration, with carefully curated views that reveal displays, rest areas, and personal touches like antique furniture, adding warmth and character. The result is a boutique that not only showcases the beauty of batik but also immerses visitors in its story.

Wow New Village Expo: Rediscover the Beauty of New Villages!

We just wrapped up the Wow New Village Expo in Ipoh Old Town, a vibrant celebration of the unique cultures from six northern Malaysian states—Perak, Penang, Kedah, Perlis, Kelantan, and Terengganu!

November this year, in collaboration with 新村Ing and Bkbc Mykgbaru under the ministry of housing and local councils , we transformed the Ipoh City Townhall into a dynamic exhibition space, showcasing the 12 new villages in a captivating way that mirrored the sea level, from low to high.

Our pavilion design featured lightweight structures formed from simple framing, supporting a beautiful fabric roof. Each display cabinet was meticulously crafted as illuminated light boxes, highlighting the specialties of each village, thanks to the incredible talents of New Era University College Faculty of Art & Design, New Era University College Interior Design diploma graduates and TAR UMT Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology architecture students.

The event brought together passionate new village community members, craftsmen, and local businesses, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm for our local culture!

If you’re looking to collaborate on future events and connect with like-minded organizers, follow us and join our creative journey! Together, we can continue to highlight the beauty of our communities!
