Back when I was pregnant, many friends asked if we're planning to buy a car to ferry the kids around. We thought long and hard about it, but it did not make sense with the high COE prices πŸ€”

In the end, we decided to try doing without a car first and if it gets too difficult, we will reconsider getting a car.

2 kids later, I can confidently say that it is totally possible to manage without owning a car! Since the kids are usually in school on weekdays, we will only need to travel around on weekends.

So far it has been very manageable by public transport and taxi services. And for special occasions like CNY this round, a short-term car rental lease fulfilled our needs perfectly πŸ’―

But we're not saying no to the possibility of owning a car in the future! If our circumstances change and the need arises, we will definitely reconsider again. Curious to know, how many of you here owns a car? πŸš—

Gotta say that CNY this year was super s**g with 2 under 2, as we had to coordinate the visiting timings with the kids' feeding schedules, nap schedules, as well as my pump/latch schedule while hopping from one place to another.

Overall we had a nice time catching up with relatives and introducing bb2 to them, but I guess it was inevitable to hear some of these annoying remarks 🀨 While I know that they mean no harm and some are just making passing remarks, it still didn't feel good being on the receiving end.

The next time you chat with a mum who is freshly post-partum, I think it would be nice to start conversations with this kind of questions instead:

πŸ’‘How is your recovery?
πŸ’‘It must be tough juggling two kids, how are you coping?
πŸ’‘Are you getting sufficient help? (Be it helper, infant care or SAHM, don't judge, just empathise)
❌️ You look tired
❌️ You gained weight
❌️ Baby doesn't look like you

If you have no idea what to say, just say that baby is cute and looks like the mum, that will make our day hahahhaha πŸ₯°

On a positive note, thankyou uncles and aunties for blessing our 2 kids with many angbaosπŸ§§πŸ˜„

This is for all fellow parents πŸ™ŒπŸ»

As 2025 comes to a close and I'm seeing many posts on what others have achieved, it suddenly dawned upon me that I haven't actually achieved much this year πŸ€” No promotions, no titles or any other impressive wins that are typically viewed as achievements.

But I have been soooo busy! Busy being a parent to bb1, preparing her milk feeds, packing her school bag, reading her books, cleaning up after her meals, arranging playdates and caring for her emotional needs. On top of that, I gotta deal with the mental load & decision fatigue involved in raising a kid, such as when to up her diaper size, does she need new shoes, how to transit her to UHT milk, when to start toilet training etc. All these seemingly insignificant little things add up to the daily buzz happening in my mind ~

For bb2, I have also been so busy while being pregnant. Busy keeping track of the medical appointments, busy remembering my daily supplements, busy checking what food/products to avoid during pregnancy, busy preparing the nursery, busy researching on JB confinement centers and worrying about how things would change after her arrival.

But none of these sound significant enough to be declared in a "2025 achievement post", you know what I mean? Reflecting on this season of life as a parent, it's kindda strange that the hardest and most meaningful work is largely unrecognised because it doesn’t come with a title, promotion, or applause.

To all parents who might be feeling the same, let's end off 2025 feeling proud of ourselves for being present, putting in our time, energy and effort into building a family even if it doesn’t fit neatly into a resume. Being a parent who shows up day after day despite the exhaustion is probably the greatest achievement ever πŸ™ŒπŸ»

Here's to an even more challenging year ahead navigating the ever growing demands of parenthood, but no doubt that watching our kids grow up and experiencing life alongside them through all the different stages is such a blessing ❀️
