Perched on a gentle hill, the site entrance takes the higher street, while the rear side stands tall above the street behind.

A sub-basement is carved out to house the ramp-down car porch to house the service areas while having extensive views towards the South.

Above the sub-basement, a sprawling garden and pool crown the scene, creating a plateau with higher view which perfectly complements the two-storey dwelling.

A Neighbour's Perspective - East Facade 🏑

The concept behind this design?

Crafting a charming side patio that gazes upon our sibling's neighboring property. 🌿✨

This cozy side patio nestled between our homes is all about fostering outdoor togetherness, bridging the gap between outdoor and indoor living. πŸ‘πŸŒ³πŸ‘«

The main feature facade of gray zircon wood strips extends along the length of the house, forming a system of openable timber screens that veils the upper private spaces. This system creates a uniform outlook for the facade yet the ability to transform the block into a natural cross-ventilated block when necessary.

Private toilet and bath areas are naturally ventilated by having timber screens, planter boxes and outer walls to create the inner privacy to a tropical living.

Situated beside the remnant of the old Malayan Railway, KAP House was designed to adopt the Japanese design principle of Shakkei (borrowed view), where the defunct railway, now a preserved green corridor, became a view of natural tropical terrain for the house.

KAP House
Previous practice in Ong & Ong Singapore.

Located at a fairly rectangular plot of land seated on a lower level, the client’s brief is to have the new house designed in response to the neighbouring existing house to create a large garden in between both houses.

The ground level block was created on the frontage of the house to reduce visibility from street and to provide more privacy to the everyday living.

The half sunken basement is designed to be naturally ventilated as to utilize the difference in levels.

The private block is orientated in such a way to minimize direct sun exposure and to maximize wind / cross ventilation to reduce air conditioning usage.

KJB Hotel is a 3-star business hotel located in the heart of a bustling city surrounded by towering buildings on all sides. Despite the urban surroundings, the hotel stands out as an oasis of calm and comfort.

Due to the limited view outward, a central courtyard was created that serves as the focal point of the building. The courtyard is overlooked by the lobby, restaurants, pool and decking, and provides a serene and peaceful atmosphere which offers guests a peaceful and comfortable escape from the chaos outside.

To further enhance the tranquil setting, the main drop-off has been elevated from the road. This design feature not only adds an element of exclusivity, but also helps to minimize the noise and activity of the outside world.

The hotel rooms are designed in North-South orientation to minimize sun exposure as it can help to reduce energy consumption and provide a comfortable and pleasant experience for the guests.
