29 design is a Kuala Lumpur based architecture & design practice established in 2005. Since its inception, 29 design has striven for simplicity, and for clean, uncluttered, modern lines. Both partners believe in the use of local materials, detailed in innovative ways. Both partners believe architecture should be strongly rooted in its’ natural environment, and always seek to make comfortable, natu
rally cooled spaces. The company’s founders, Amanda SC Teh and Stephanie Maignan, personally direct each of the company's projects. Amanda SC Teh graduated in 2000 with a Bachelor of Architecture & Applied Science from Curtin University of Technology in Perth, Australia. Amanda worked briefly in Australia before coming back to Malaysia in 2001. She worked for a local firm as a project architect for 3 ½ years prior to establishing 29 design with Stephanie Maignan in 2005. Stephanie Maignan graduated from Cornell University in New York, USA, in 1998 with a Bachelor of Architecture degree, and subsequently worked for 4 years in New York City as a fresh architecture graduate. Stephanie then moved to Kuala Lumpur in 2002 and worked for a Malaysian firm as a project architect for 3 years. Prior to establishing 29 design, a passion for detailing and material exploration also led Stephanie to explore in parallel the realm of furniture design, which led to the design of the Macaroni Chair, which was manufactured in China for export. Both partners established 29 design at the tender age of, well, 29, armed with a passion and enthusiasm for residential design, which is architecture at its’ most intimate scale.
