Security Tips For Your Kids
Below are some vital security tips for the benefit of your children and the general public.
Most of the tips may seem familiar.
Teach children never to admit strangers into the home: This is very important, and sometimes may extend to ‘friends’ too.
Sometimes strangers are let into your home because they are accompanied by somebody familiar.
Once your home is penetrated, perpetuating crimes against your family becomes relatively easy.
If you are going to leave your children at home alone at all, at least let there be a chaperone you trust to watch over them.
Teach children local emergency phone numbers: Emergency number 07034640202, 08125740204.
We would simply connect to a nearest police station.
It is your job therefore as a parent to guide them, gently and diplomatically.
Caution teenagers about ‘blind dates’ or meeting anyone they do not know: Not so long ago there was in the news a story about a girl who was murdered in a hotel, while she went to meet up with a man she met via a popular social network.
Teach younger members of your family not to open mails or packages: Sometimes it might not even be a letter bomb. It could just be that the package contains sensitive information that might eventually bring harm to your family if it not handled appropriately.
Teach young children how to answer the telephone so that they do not give out personal information: Children have access to phones in the house so that they can be easily reached by you, or can easily reach out to someone when they are in need of help, and this is beneficial. However, it is possible for them to misuse this helpful tool and turn it into a dangerous one, if they are giving out their home addresses and telling strangers about the absence of adults in the house.
Teach your children how to exit the house in the case of emergency.

This is very important. They might be more inclined to hurdling themselves in a corner of the house, which might prove fatal if there was a fire or armed robbery involved.

Leaving the house and seeking help might preserve their precious lives.

Police Apprehends Woman Who Absconded With Three-day-old Baby in Ibadan
July 27, 2022

The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a woman who absconded with a three-day-old baby in Ibadan, the state capital.

The suspect, 23-year-old Adepoju, who lives in Lagos, had absconded with a three-day-old baby girl from her mother last week, after tricking the mother of being in dire need of accommodation.

The mother of the baby, Monsurat Lateef, lives in the Itamerin area, Ogbere, Ona Ara Local Government Area in Ibadan.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Adewale Osifeso, 36-year-old Lateef delivered a female child on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Yahora Faith Mission, Itamerin, Ogbere, Ibadan.

“On Tuesday, 19/07/2022, she proceeded to Abaemu General Hospital, Ona-Ora to initiate immunisation proceedings for her daughter from where she met the suspect who approached her as a friendly patient who also sought medical intervention.

“Unknowing to Monsurat, the suspect had just suffered a stillbirth and had been referred to the same health facility for scan.

“They got chatting and the suspect indicated interest in moving down to Ibadan from Lagos and was in dire need of accommodation.

“Monsurat Lateef ‘f’ ’36yrs’, driven by empathy decided to oblige the total stranger by assisting her with the house search.

“In furtherance to the above, the complainant decided to invite her (the suspect) over to spend the night because at the time, the house searching had encroached into late evening.

“In what seemed a premeditated action around 1300HRS, the suspect, Itunu Adepoju who had now totally gained the confidence and trust of her host, pleaded to use a nearby point of sales terminal with the three-day-old baby carefully tucked on her back. The money she intended to collect, according to her, was sent by her fiance for the purpose of completing the rent process.

“The complainant, Monsurat Lateef, obliged the suspect before she later realised she had been tricked and that the suspect had absconded with her child,” Osifeso said.

He added that the matter would be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

Meanwhile, Osifeso has enjoined residents of the state to remain cooperative and unrelenting with providing timely and credible information, capable of nipping crime in the bud at all times.
