Inspired by Igbo/Efik interior architectural heritage and the Nsibidi script, this space honors their roots with earthy tones of terracotta, beige, and ivory. A wall adorned with Nsibidi symbols serves as a living archive, connecting to their heritage. Rhythmic patterns echo Uli motifs, while wave-like forms reflect harmony and fluidity—core Eastern Nigerian values.

A suspended calabash feature symbolizes life and community. The warm wood reception desk and terracotta stools draw from traditional forms, blending minimalism with cultural pride. Gourd-like pendant lights and arched niches bring visual storytelling to life.

𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗦𝗺𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗱 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗜 𝗦𝗲𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲

During my time in university, I once reviewed a working drawing for a large project designed by one of my lecturers. I noticed a small reinforced concrete detail inside a wall, but it wasn’t a traditional column or at a wall junction. It stood within the masonry wall, and I didn’t understand it.

I asked a simple question: “What is this?”

That one question opened up a full lecture—its name, purpose, types, and how it is constructed. I learned far more than I expected from something so small. That moment taught me something important: details matter.

As architects, we shouldn’t ignore what we don’t understand. Small details can unlock deep knowledge. If you see something, ask about it. That curiosity will take you further than silence ever will.

I’m grateful I paid attention and even more grateful I asked.

Be curious. Ask questions. That’s how you grow.
