SETTING-OUT
This is the first step in building construction after site clearing.
SETTING OUT means marking the position where the foundation trenches for all the walls of the building will be excavated.
A building is SET OUT to accurately define the outline and width of the excavation and to determine the lines of the proposed building walls, according to the building architectural/structural drawings.
The method of transferring the working drawing into the ground practically is called setting out of the building.
SETTING OUT is most likely the most important step in the entire building construction process.
Carelessly Setting Out buildings will be difficult or impossible to build according to plan. As a result, the completed structure may be costly to maintain and unhealthy. It is thus important to exercise extreme caution when setting out.
Everything else depends on the setting out being accurate, it is important to
take extra care.
Here are some 5 tips for ensuring your building is properly Set:
5 IMPORTANT CHECKS DURING SETTING OUT.
1. Plan yourself in a way that the entire foundation is set out at once if possible, rather than over several days to avoid tampering with the initial work/reference(s).
2. Make sure that any instrument you are using for the setting out gives a perfect 90-degree angle not less or more.
3. Your measuring tape must be accurately horizontal and not on a slope.
4. Make sure that your reference peg is vertically plumed not tilted to any side.
5. Always remember to perform diagonal check to be sure that your building is 100% correct at 90° and accurate.
The outcome of the whole building depends on the setting out being accurate. So take your time to get it right and check very well to be sure you got it right.
