MY PERSONAL SECURITY GUARD:
SECURITY GUARD TRAINING MANUAL
DAVID BOKOLO
Deep in the solitude of my heart has been this urge to express all the talks I was engaged to myself. We create a world within ourselves and if we do not express them in writing, then nobody would know the world that lay buried in us.
The depth of the world in which brilliant authors live in their writings appalled me as I read them. Thus, I felt compelled to start expressing my world for others to read.
My personal Security Guard x-rayed the overwhelming criminal activities in the world and Nigeria in particular. The book is a serial e-book attempting to teach a security consciousness to everybody. This text, as good as it is to any security guard training manual, is not only meant for the active security personnel but also for the public.

MY PERSONAL SECURITY GUARD:
A SECURITY GUARD TRAINING MANUAL
This security Guard Training Manual is a product of years of training, research, and experience gathered from my years as a Police Officer. I deliberately changed some names and places in this book, as I do not have permission to use their real identity. Any resemblance to any person or place, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

PROLOGUE
My Personal Security Guard: Split Judgment.
The night was pitch dark and the two police officers on foot patrol duty could hardly see each other along these narrow urban streets with no proper town planning. Those were the days when the Nigeria police were still patrolling streets at night on foot.
The night was deadly quiet you can almost hear the breathing of your colleague about five meters across the street. The only other sounds in the night were the silence of the night; humming, generating plants from some homes, the croaking of frogs in the waterlogged gutters, and shrieking sounds of crickets.
A quick check on your wristwatch with the flashlight shows it’s 2 AM; just about 3 hours your duty round will be over and you’ll be reporting off at the station and to the house.
You are not sure if there is enough soup to go around for the day in the house, and today is just the 15th day of the month, salary is still a long way from coming.
You observed your partner droop along on the other side of the road, with his boots making hollow sounds on the tarred floor, and his head bowed low.
“Ol’ boy, do you think there will be special duty this weekend at the station?” You whispered, walking closer to him.
He paused in his stride, looked up, and waited for you to catch up with him.
“I’ll ask the S O if there will be any,” his voice sounded husky from the night cold despite his thick dressing.
“I’m just wondering if one could get some financial booster before the salary comes,” you sneered, shifting the rifle to your other hand.
“Man, it’s like we are thinking about the same thing. I'm worried about my children's school fees and…”
CRACK! CRACK! BOOM! BOOM! In the silent night, the sudden sound of gunshots and the hitting of doors interrupted his sentence.
“It’s from that other street,” you whispered loudly, crouching low, with your rifle drawn, as you started running toward the sound.
“Are you sure it’s from that street? It sounded more like from the other street across the road,” your partner reasoned.
The hitting of the doors repeated and was more insistent this time. You could hear the guttural voices of men shouting.
“I think you’re right. It’s from this way,” you agreed with your colleague. “Come on, let’s go see what’s happening.”
On either side of the street, you started running toward the sound of the noise, passing through dark alleys.
You do not know what hit you so hard across the face. You saw a dark blurry shape darting out from the corner of a building, and then an excruciating pain and you are out.
This was not a movie. It is a true life story that happened way back in the 80s, in a city in western Nigeria before GSM and motorized patrol by the different security agents.
These things happen to our security men on various duty posts. While we trust our safety to those who put their lives on the line of duty to keep us safe, we realize that they are also human, frail,
and prone to wrong judgment.
difference
My Personal Security Guard Training tried to highlight the most seemingly inconsequential tips that can make the difference between life and death.
This is not just for the police officer or security guard in your home or office premises, it is for all of us.
