Another great training week completed in Canada! 🇨🇦

Together with the team at Highline, we had inspiring discussions about one key question: not whether things are going well, but how they can be improved even further. Continuous improvement is the foundation of achieving more consistent yields, better quality, and stronger results.

During this week, we took a deep dive into both mushroom composting and cultivation.

What made the discussions especially valuable was that all participants had already completed the Extended E-learning modules and joined the preparatory online sessions before attending the in-person course. This allowed us to move beyond the basics and focus on practical challenges, critical thinking, and real-life improvements.

A big thank you to Highline and all participants for your openness, engagement, and great questions. I truly enjoyed the week and the opportunity to learn together.

Looking forward to the next session!

It was a pleasure to speak at the North American Mushroom Conference (NAMC) in Montreal on the topic "Continuity as a Success Factor in Mushroom Cultivation." 🎤

What made this session particularly valuable was the level of interaction from the audience. 77 participants shared their views and experiences through live polling.

I was delighted to see that 46 attendees already owned the Mushroom Signals book 📚, while another 10 expressed their interest in getting a copy!

One of the key questions we explored was: How much risk are you willing to take in pursuit of better results? And how do those potential gains compare to the costs of operating with a larger safety margin?

A simple analogy helped drive the discussion: the closer you walk to the edge of a cliff, the greater the chance of falling.

The same principle applies in mushroom cultivation. Pushing limits can create opportunities, but it also increases vulnerability when conditions change or something goes wrong.

This sparked an engaging discussion, supported by practical examples from daily cultivation practice.

I’ll be sharing more insights on this topic in my next Mushroom Blog. Stay tuned!

In the meantime, would you like to get your hands on the Mushroom Signals book, just like the 56 attendees? Then check out our webshop! 👉 https://www.mushroomoffice.com/category/mushroom-book/

Boost your Mushroom yield 🍄‍🟫

Mushroom supplement is a product that is added to the compost to improve the production and quality of mushrooms.

There is no doubt that this works when the compost has been colonised by mycelium in a tunnel (phase 3). However, certain criteria must be met to ensure that the use of mushroom supplement always has the desired effect.

Nematodes are not the problem, they’re the warning sign. 🌱

Nematodes are often a sign that something is going wrong beneath the surface. They mainly appear when compost or casing soil develops anaerobic conditions. When only the casing layer is slightly anaerobic, nematodes may sometimes disappear again without causing much damage.

However, they usually indicate deeper issues in the compost. This often happens when the compost is too wet and little or no mycelium is growing. In that situation, the compost starts to rot.

This is commonly caused by excess water combined with short or warm compost. There is no treatment for nematodes. That’s why high-quality compost and casing soil, careful watering, and proper temperature control are essential.
