[Hondsrugtuin Hortus, Haren]

What began as bare soil has grown into a layered, living landscape. By letting the three native soil types of the Hondsrug speak for themselves, the garden invited nature to reveal what belongs where.
Now, years later, colour, texture and rhythm have settled in—keileem supports mosses and moisture-loving herbs, dekzand gave rise to grasses and pioneers, and along the stream, meadow flowers found their footing. No design could have predicted this, and that was precisely the point!

[Hondsrugtuin Hortus, Haren]

Shaped not by planting schemes, but by soil itself, the Hondsrugtuin emerged as a living cross-section of geological time. Three characteristic soil types from the Hondsrug Geopark form the foundation of the design, each revealing a different layer of earth’s history. Together, they set the stage for a botanical experiment where nature writes its own planting plan.

[NOMINATION! - Tuin van Delft, Delft]

This week on Thursday, the Historical Society Delfia Batavorum awards the Le Comte Prize for remarkable improvements to the Delft cityscape. Our design for Tuin van Delft is one of 5 nominated projects, so let's dive into it!

It sounds like a contradictory brief and objective: to create a climate-resilient and decelerating place at Houttuinplein in Delft, wedged between the bulwark, ‘het Huis van Delft’, the station hall, and atop the Willem van Oranje tunnel. Despite the complexity of the task, BOOM Landscape managed to create a small oasis amidst the hustle and bustle of the station area called the Tuin van Delft (Garden of Delft).

Visitors are warmly welcomed onto a circular carpet of artisanal paving patterns that invite them to stay awhile. The seemingly tranquil nature of the carpet hides the technical design that not only enables the garden to thrive on this challenging location but also provides a broader contribution to climate resilience, circularity, and the cultural heritage of the city.

Every year the Historical Society Delfia Batavorum awards the Le Comte Prize for remarkable improvements to the Delft cityscape. The Le Comte committee receives eleven candidates, of which five nominations are chosen.

We are happy and grateful to announce Tuin van Delft is one of these five chosen projects!!!
Back in 2021, our design was enthusiastically embraced by the residents of Delft. In 2024, the design was realised.

[Cape Square, Dürres Albania]

The Albanian coast has become a popular summer destination over the years. 'Sfinksi' is a landmark bringing together tourist and locals (and their dogs). The perfect place to get a tan, catch a fish or admire the view.

[Cape Square, Dürres Albania]

Once a neglected stretch along the Adriatic, Since several years a vibrant public space where locals gather to watch the sunset. BOOM's design for Cape Square - nicknamed 'Sfinksi' by residents - transforms the urban coastline with layered stonework, native Mediterranean planting, and a bold identity spelled out in stone.

Construction is underway and we’re loving seeing this playful landscape come to life. The climbing elements are already in place, veggie beds are being built, and the rain barrel’s ready to fill up.
The kids will have to be a little more patient, but luckily kettinghuls's slide is already in action! We can’t wait to share the next updates!

At Marineterrein, innovative design has turned an underused space into a lively public space.
The docks are now one of Amsterdam's most popular swimming areas and the fitness garden is buzzing with bootcamps and sports classes. and as you can see, local plant species are flourishing in the cut-out plant beds!

At Marineterrein, we turned a paved parking lot into a living lab. We designed a grid of cut-out plant beds, fed by a smart irrigation system and wired for urban experiments. A flexible green space where biodiversity meets innovation, right in the heart of Amsterdam.

[Marineterrein, Amsterdam]

For centuries, Marineterrein Amsterdam was closed off, but now it's a hub for innovation and urban experiments. BOOM is advising on the (temporary) public space design, making room for recreation, nature and smart solutions for a better city.
Time to see how the experiment is going!

[HIBI, Amsterdam]

This segment model of the stepped garden at HIBI shows how the design of these steps creates 'HIBI-spaces'.
Perfect spots where residents can hang out and chat with neighbours. The staircase takes you up to the rooftop garden, but it also brings together different soil levels, connecting the ground all the way up to the rooftop. It's a way to tie the spaces together, and create a seamless ecological flow.
