Block B at Cobercokwartier is taking shape!

Recently we visited the construction site to review the sample walls — the moment when material, colour and detailing truly come together.

Red pigmented concrete, a red mortar joint and cantilevered headers in the plinth define the appearance of the corner building.

Together with the strong horizontal articulation, this creates a robust and recognisable architectural expression. The distinctive corner building marks one of the entrances to the Cobercokwartier and forms part of the new urban ensemble surrounding the historic dairy factory.

Rounded concrete arches and façade openings, combined with wrap-around balconies, emphasise the building’s corner position within the urban fabric and give it a distinct architectural identity.

Great to see the design gradually becoming reality.

Start of construction Porta – Woerden

Last week we celebrated an important milestone: the start of construction of Porta in Woerden. Together with alderman Arjan Noorthoek, we drove the first pile for this special project.

Porta comprises 82 homes, ranging from apartments and family houses to a Thuishuis for single people aged 55 and over. In addition, three student rooms will be included for students who contribute to daily life in the Thuishuis and at Stichting Thuishuis Woerden. This creates daily contact between generations. It strengthens mutual connection and helps prevent loneliness.

The plan is designed as a place where meeting one another comes naturally. At its heart lies a green courtyard, offering space for relaxation, play and informal use. Amenities such as the Snel & Polanen shopping centre, the train station and the Cattenbroekerplas are all within close reach.

With this first pile, another step has been taken in the development of Snellerpoort, which will grow into a new, green neighbourhood in Woerden in the coming years.

Proud of the collaboration between:
Client: Bolton Ontwikkeling
Stichting Thuis in Welzijn
Design team: in collaboration with .eu architects and Urbanism and Landscape
Consultants: GROOSMAN structural engineers, KVMC

A great step towards an inclusive and sustainable living environment in Woerden!

🎉 Welcome Maud and Laura!

We’re happy to welcome two creative and driven additions to our team! Both are studying at the Academy of Architecture and bring building-technical knowledge and experience from several architecture offices.

Laura: “As a designer, I draw a lot of energy from bringing together people, context and the historical layers of architecture. I’m very excited to start this new adventure at Studiospacious!”

Maud: “What motivates me is translating ideas into designs that add something meaningful for people, with special attention to the social impact and sustainability of architecture.”

We look forward to building great projects together. 👏

Building a neighborhood

Construction of the Vlietkwartier is progressing rapidly, and the first outlines of the homes along the Vlietkade are already becoming visible.

The heart of the district is gradually taking shape, with three back-to-back houses set within a green, public strolling landscape of narrow lanes, small squares, and play areas.

A place where pedestrians and playing children take priority, and where encounters arise almost naturally.

Great to see Vlietkwartier growing step by step.

Color, texture and team spirit: selecting bricks for the Oranjebuurt!

Recently, our entire team visited the Rodruza brick factory to select the masonry for the 156 social housing units we are designing for Ymere in the Oranjebuurt in Hoofddorp. We opted for a restrained brick selection, allowing the richness of the masonry bonds to take the lead.

Choosing the right material is always a special moment: touching, observing, comparing — and collectively laying the foundation for the project.

Together, we ensure that every detail is right, from brick to façade, so that the Oranjebuurt will soon become a warm, durable and recognizable residential environment.

Search for scale and rhythm!

In Haarlem, we are currently working for Hoorne Vastgoed and — together with and — on three apartment buildings and a row of ground-oriented houses.

The model shows one structural bay of one of the apartment buildings. By varying the rhythm of the windows on each floor, a subtle richness emerges in the architecture, giving the building a clear articulation of base, middle, and crown.

We are exploring how buildings can mediate between the experience of the street and the scale of the residential towers, in order to create an urban architecture that maintains a human scale. Photo credits: .white.photo

Façade concept revealed!

We are currently working on the design of a new plinth for a 1970s apartment building in Amsterdam Nieuw-West — a structure composed of prefabricated concrete elements.

In the new design, a light-colored concrete base forms the foundation for modular prefabricated timber façade elements. These new elements follow the rhythm and logic of the existing façade, allowing the old and new to blend together naturally.

Behind the new façade, a diverse program takes shape: a bicycle lobby, work and study areas, and commercial spaces. Photo credits and

Start of Construction Block B – Cobercokwartier Arnhem!

On Monday, September 29, together with the future residents, BPD, Trebbe, Alderman Paul Smeulders and the design team, we raised a glass to a special moment: the start of construction of Block B in the Cobercokwartier.

For Studiospacious this marks an important milestone. Since winning the tender in 2016, we have been working with full dedication on this new part of the city. It has required patience, intensive collaboration, and shared perseverance. How wonderful that we are now truly taking the step toward realization!

Block B, with our distinctive corner building at the entrance of the area, will soon form part of the new urban ensemble surrounding the historic dairy factory. We look forward to seeing it rise, step by step.

A big thank you to all partners, advisors and builders who make this possible. Here’s to a great construction period ahead!

Meandering route through the courtyard

In Porta, the alleys that create a pedestrian route along the east-west axis are marked by two gates. These gates connect the neighborhood streets with PORTA’s inner courtyard and delineate the boundary between public space and the shared courtyard.

Visitors to PORTA are thus subtly made aware that they are guests. And those who feel like guests tend to behave differently. This fosters attentiveness and a sense of responsibility for the surroundings, creating opportunities for spontaneous encounters between passersby and residents.
