Some people simply can’t help but create. Whether it’s through sound or colour, the urge is the same.

Joni Mitchell once called herself “a painter derailed by circumstance.” But maybe that’s exactly the point. The best creators don’t stay in one lane. They move freely between mediums, following whatever form allows their ideas to come to life.

Music and painting speak the same language. They just use different tools.

Jazz and visual art grew up side by side, breaking the same rules, embracing spontaneity, and speaking a shared visual language. 🎶

Some of the greatest artists of the 20th century even described painting as visual music, and meant it quite literally. Piet Mondriaan painted Victory Boogie Woogie while listening to jazz on repeat. You can almost feel it in every block of colour, like notes moving across the canvas.

That connection never disappeared. From iconic album covers to the bold, rhythmic work being made today, music has shaped how artists see and create for over a century.
