Heavy Metals ceramic mug 🚀
My Heavy Metals mugs and cups appear to be made from rusty steel, assembled from scavenged parts, nuts, bolts and welded seams. Only on closer inspection does the deception reveal itself: they are entirely made of clay.
Rey would have one packed on her speeder. Quill would happily trade his Walkman for one. With his feet up on the dashboard of the Millennium Falcon, Han Solo would enjoy his beer from it. Equally suited to holding Valkyrie’s booze or Jean-Luc Picard’s Earl Grey.
Beer, coffee, tea, blue milk—whatever your poison, there’s a vessel for it in this series.

Heavy Metals ceramic espresso cups 🚀

My Heavy Metals series is deeply personal. It draws on childhood memories of summers spent in my father’s hometown, where my uncle’s workshop—aptly named after Hephaestus, the Greek god of fire and metal—left a lasting impression on me. It was a chaotic, overwhelming place, where hammers struck glowing iron and the smell of machine oil hung heavily in the air. I felt both fear and fascination there.
Those sensory impressions—the sound of metal, the texture of rust, the quiet violence of transformation—resurface in Heavy Metals.
By working with clay, I connect the tactile quality of those memories with my artistic practice. The result is a body of work that appears strong and enduring, yet is inherently fragile. In this way, I aim to evoke the tension between the human urge to hold on and the inevitability of change.

Stoneware clay decorated with terra sigillata, stencils, oxides, and glazes.
Childhood holidays in my father’s hometown remain a lasting source of inspiration for me. My uncle’s workshop — a chaotic, mysterious place named “Hephaestus” after the Greek god of fire and metal — was filled with flying sparks and the pounding of hammers on steel. It both frightened and fascinated me. Those sensory memories — the sound, the smell of machine oil, the texture of rust — resurface in my Heavy Metals series, where my personal history and artistic vision merge.

In mijn atelier krijg je alle ruimte om te ontdekken, te oefenen en vragen te stellen. Samen werken we aan wat jij wilt leren, of dat nu handvormen, glazuren, decoratietechnieken of een persoonlijk project is.
