Innovative Architectural Solution: Transforming Abandoned Bridge Houses into Micro-Living Spaces
Our team of 5 female architects has developed a groundbreaking concept to repurpose the Netherlands' 1500+ empty bridge houses, inspired by the symbiotic relationship between birds and elephants. By creating modular micro-homes that delicately sit atop existing bridge structures, we're addressing urban space challenges while preserving architectural heritage. Our prototype, demonstrated at the Hofvlietbrug in Zwolle, transforms underutilized infrastructure into adaptable living spaces with community-focused public areas. The concept offers a sustainable, scalable solution that reimagines urban design, blending functionality, social value, and architectural innovation.

Atelier NIRIS has worked on the conceptual design of a wedding hall in Kerkweg, Ter Aar.

White and cream colours make the atmosphere fresh, vintage and luxurious. With flashy chandeliers, you will feel like you are in heaven and you are going to have unforgettable memories.

This wedding hall exudes a sense of grandeur and elegance, featuring a spacious and opulent interior designed to accommodate a large number of guests. The hall is adorned with numerous large, ornate crystal chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, casting a soft, warm glow over the room. The walls are lined with arched windows, adding a classic touch, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

A cream colour carpet runs down the center aisle, leading to the focal point of the room—a beautifully decorated stage, perfect for ceremonies or speeches. The stage backdrop is a series of elegant, arched wall panels, complemented by green vines and floral arrangements, creating a romantic setting.

Havendijk Hotel , the Netherlands

Happy to announce that Atelier NIRIS has finished the renovation of Havendijk Hotel in Schiedam, the Netherlands!

The building was formerly a public library of 1980s. We aim to renovate this building of vast open space into a 4-star standard boutique hotel with 38 rooms, a restaurant, meeting room, co-working space and a rooftop wellness. Due to its old identity, every room has its own uniqueness and beauty.

Another goal of this renovation project is to offer the surrounding industry and office area with quality food, quality space and quality time.
