Dear all, finally we can announce that the United Designers Website is complete and ready to roam the globe.

It has been an extensive haul to get all the collective projects with corresponding data in from all Designers, but we, Daniel and I, are very proud of the result and can't wait to hear what you think.

Meet our team, which we are continuously expanding, read about our practice areas or search for projects by Category, System or Country, or of course, roam the entire portfolio.

Furthermore, we have another announcement to make, which some of you may have noticed. Daniel and I are now full partners/founders of the new and updated United Designers International. 2 years of working together has proven to be the perfect intellectual fit.

With our global team, we will be working towards a regenerative, productive and inspirational future from which we can hopefully all benefit.

Please feel free to share and like 😉

Warm regards, Weruschca Kirkegard and Daniel Halsey

Dear friends and followers. I NEED YOUR HELP 🙌

We have submitted United Designers, of which I am a member, for the Food Planet Prize, and we need nominations.

--------------------

Our submission:

We use a comprehensive design process incorporating each ecological and structural element. Prioritizing the essential stages of phased implementation and provisions. Our designs encompass long-term resilience for social, economic, and environmental resources.

Our practice areas: 1. (Largescale) Ecosystem Restoration 2. Community-Based Watershed Restoration 3. GIS Resource Assessment and Planning 4. Homestead Design and 5. Agroforestry Systems.

As a global team, we look to fulfil the many requests we have for food security practices, but even more important is the urgency to develop local designers and resources within the communities. Winning this prize would enable us to employ and train a diverse network of global designers in all climates, latitudes, and cultures.

Caring for the planet and ourselves. 🌱

------------------------

If you support this vision and mission, please send me a PM and I'll send you the data that you have to fill out and then go to the following link, and take just 2 minutes to make the biggest change! And Nominate United Designers.

Thank you, from all the regenerative designers across the globe.

And don't forget to SHARE this message as much as you can 🙏

The means of transportation when going to a client's can at times be both adventurous and challenging. Hours of hiking, 4x4 jeeps, helicopter, to name a few.

But yesterday I had a new to add to the list. Lokal, here in the and by Boat!
It concerned a family-owned situated on an Island! So pick-up up was with a little dinghy on the opposite shore. I just love my work!

Their Main revenue is their locally produced . And may I say.. it was delicious.. had to taste of course... But the Island is 100% , battling both with extreme high groundwater levels as well as subsidence. A challenging landscape. Windswept and harsh.

: Restoring paradise, Haiti as the green pearl of the Caribbean

For a couple of months now preparing for a design assignment in .

The Haitian population is one of the most exposed in the world to natural disasters, including hurricanes, floods, and earthquakes. The number of disasters per kilometre tops the average for other Caribbean countries. Hurricanes have destroyed countless homes and damaged even more. Frequent floods wipe out up to 70% of Haiti's crops, resulting in dozens of deaths of children due to malnutrition in the months following the storms. And this impoverished country hasn’t really recovered till this date. The country is still among the ten zones in the world considered most vulnerable to .
With coastal flooding and rain caused heavy flooding, landslides, and the destruction of a great deal of infrastructure, agricultural crops and natural ecosystems this country is in dire need of not only humanitarian aid, but also a re-design on the ground, especially around the watersheds.

We, the United DesignersTeam, have partnered with LEOS, Haiti Red cross, Rode Kruis, and Commonland to initiate the Project. For Watershed and Ecological Restoration, 6000 acres and 300 farms.

Ben Missimer has been working hard on the cartography. With satellite and LiDAR data, conducting a detailed landscape analysis of topography and hydrology, so we can start understanding the main and sub-watersheds.

Daniel Halsey and I have been digging into the social, economic and ecological data mining, always working by the 4 pillars of the . , , and .
I tend to see it as four legs of a table. Cut one-off and the table is no longer stable. This is the only way of approaching severe largescale landscape degradation.

Finally, as I write, Daniel is sweating on the ground in Haiti, very Indiana Jones being transported by Helicopter, hiking the mayor waterways and meeting local farmers and partners. I’m back home analyzing all farmer interviews, and gathering visuals and proposals for system implementations, feeling more and more present in this amazing project. I can’t wait till Daniel comes home and we can start on the nitty-gritty with the actual design proposals.

Múla - Ecosystems by Design

Site analysis-driven regenerative and ecological restoration planning and design services.

My background in interior design and large-scale restorations for both residential and commercial properties, years of (self-) marketing, and running a restaurant in the center of Amsterdam, enables me to bring a multi-disciplinary view and experience to the table. On strategy, design-process and project management. On different scales and connecting the relationship between them, always in collaboration! Being well traveled, having lived in several countries and speaking 5 languages fluently I can be considered very culturally adaptive.

I am a member of United designers and a proud ambassador to the Ecosystem Restoration Camps, affiliated with The Plant and with The World permaculture association, PRI-certified, providing both consultation, design and assessment services.

Combining ecosystem design with aesthetics, form and health, from (homestead) gardens (residential), parks (urban greenery), to food forests, with nature-based solutions; The functions of such systems can vary. Landscaping from natures point of view. Letting nature impose the design on us vs. us imposing the design on nature. The most important functions are building soil, food supply, clean water, increase bio-diversity, creating a protective and beautiful environment, producing building materials and breaking down certain waste materials. They can also offer protection against extreme weather conditions in our changing climate. You literally design the nature around you and restore neglected and often desertified ecosystems to recover with the knowledge from nature.
