Micro installation for and

The work follows our research Description by Design supported by exploring the relation between architecture and art, and more specifically applying the collaging methodologies of Jiri Kolar to demolition materials.

Our experimental manipulations on demolition materials have led to a series of mock-ups, proposing innovative constructive and aesthetic qualities. The discarded matter, considered once dirty, ugly and superfluous, is brought back to life with its physical and immaterial components, and becomes unexpectedly beautiful, solid, and sometimes even appetizing.

Skew it! reacts to the context where it stands, a glass box on the street, reminding urban food stands for kebap or roasted chicken. As brochettes combine small pieces of food into new tasty compositions, our 3 skewers give a glimpse on our experimental research, the left skewer presenting the raw materials, the right one the manipulation process, and the middle one the results.

Cross-disciplinary performance together with food designer Trang Hà .soup and sound artist Roc Montoriol

Inspired by the collaging techniques of Jiří Kolář, the surreal and interactive performance gives a taste of techniques such as arbitrary crumpling, stratified layering or composed perforations, being applied to demolition materials, food, and sound, and generating unique and unexpected results.

This event was part of the collective exhibition No Time to Waste - Current Traces #02 at OMI Rotterdam, and initiated within our research Description by Design funded by the Talent Development from the

No Time To Waste - Current Traces #02
07.02.25 - 01.03.25

Slice it. Crush it. Crumple it. Press it. Melt it. Agglomerate it. Decompose it. Assemble it. Mix it. Remix it. Upgrade it.

The installation presents the results of our research inspired by the collaging work of Jiri Kolár, exploring alternative re-use of demolition materials in Rotterdam.
Each stone of the arch expresses its own character deriving from the chosen collaging technique, the found materials and the extracted inherent meanings.
The colourful composition invites the visitor to encounter alternatives to tabula rasa, envisioning the wide spectrum of constructive, aesthetic and intangible qualities of the disregarded matter, and opening new horizon to upgrade reality in its built environment.

The research is supported by the Talent Development Grant from

Casaletto - the facades are completed!

Once the roof finished, the facades had to be cleaned up from the old cement and reinforced with a fresh one. After several tests for finding the right color and consistency, the walls could be filled, finalizing the works for the exterior of the casale.

Casaletto - the roof is completed!

After stabilizing the old stone walls with a reinforced concrete belt, the steel structure has been placed and the old volumetry of the roof reestablished. Once the insulating panels and the waterproofing membrane installed over the structure, it was then time to install the ventilated hook system allowing the old roof tiles to be reused after a good dry wash.

Exhibition Tutti Frutti in Citrusveiling Rotterdam, June 2024

The temporary exhibition displays the works of our master students from as a result of the semester studio Tutti Frutti, and is constructed with the physical and conceptual components of the Citrusveiling, a former citrus auction house.
A light-weight rope structure is fixed on 3 existing elements of the former 'monsterzaal', or sample room, to form a triangular plan referring to the auction auditorium upstairs. A yellow net isolates the exhibition space while playing the role of a translucent curtain highlighting the projects. 47 lemons punctuate and ballast the whole system, allowing the works to be hanged firmly on the vertical ropes.

Last month, we visited Prague as part of our current research on the re-use of demolition materials, Description by Design, supported by as part of the Talent Development Programme. Accompanied by our architecture masterclass from , we went together on the tracks of Czech artist Jiří Kolář whose work, sometimes described as visual poetry, developed a series of collage techniques, exploring new meanings through surgical manipulations.

We particularly share our gratitude to and for unlocking the doors to the wonders of their collection.

Work in progress at artistic ermitage!

Ongoing renovation of an old limestone country house into an artistic retreat.

The casale, located in the country side of Olevano Romano, an hour away from Rome, will become a platform for creatives searching for a strong relation with nature, and for punctual artistic events and workshops organised around the celebration of nature, local traditions and agriculture.

The old wooden roof structure that had to be removed is being replaced by a new steel structure, allowing the maximal opening of the interior volume, as well as reducing the weight of the roof over the stone walls. The new structure will remain visible from inside, creating a strong contrast with the original materials, while from outside the old roof tiles will be placed back and the house will keep its original aesthetic.
