Event | Rotterdam Rooftop Days 2026
 
Yesterday we walked Walk the Block during the Rotterdam Rooftop Days! During the festival weekends of May 30–31 and June 6–7, visitors can enjoy panoramic views across Rotterdam from a variety of rooftops, including the rooftop of Schieblock.
 
The Walk the Block experience showcases the future vision for the Schieblock through visualizations by De Urbanisten, highlighting Rotterdam’s ambitions for greener and innovative urban development.
 
The visualization offers a glimpse of the future Delftseblok, where De Urbanisten team has designed a vibrant rooftop landscape featuring a robust, circular water system and an urban vegetable garden.

It was a great opportunity to experience the Schieblock in its current form before its transformation begins.

News - Marit Janse is the new Speaker for the Living at Zoöp Nieuwe Instituut!

Yesterday, she took over the baton from Maike van Stiphout; quite literally, in the form of a stick found upstream and gnawed on by beavers. As an independent advisor within the Zoöp, Marit gives a voice to non-human life and ensures that the interests of nature are firmly rooted in the decision-making process.

Marit hopes that all Rotterdam-based Zoöps spread through the city like mycelium threads and that Zoöp Nieuwe Instituut positions itself as a voice for the river and its ecosystems within Rotterdam, guiding the conversation on how the city relates to its river and more-than-human life. Ultimately, Marit hopes we’ll rediscover the river as a shared ancestor, much like the ‘Mother Meuse’ in Limburg, connecting everything that lives and grows in our delta.

Wat is de waarde van spontane natuur in de stad? En hoe bouwen we aan stadslandschappen die niet alleen mooi zijn, maar ook functioneren als een ecosysteem? Op donderdag 5 maart gaat Marit Janse in gesprek met Coen van Rooyen van WoningBouwersNL en Claudia Bouwens, programmaleider van KAN Platform, over projecten waar water en stedelijke natuur de hoofdrol spelen.

🌿 Meet Jette! She has just completed her internship at De Urbanisten and will soon continue with her final year of her master’s in Landscape Architecture at TU Dresden. Jette is passionate about creating qualitative public spaces that are inclusive for all living beings.

At De Urbanisten, she contributed to the urban plan for Galileipark, where she worked on the landscape design and supported research on spatial quality and green structures. She also assisted in monitoring the Tidal Park Keilehaven, focusing on spontaneous plant development.

What Jette enjoys most about the design process is that every project brings new questions, tools, and perspectives. She values the opportunity to keep learning, whether it’s about plants, people, or spatial systems.

At De Urbanisten, we’re committed to designing sustainable and attractive environments for both people and other earthlings—for a resilient future.

Bioblitz010 at Tidal Park Keilehaven X Voedseltuin was a big success!

A big thank-you to everyone who joined us - including . Together we counted a total of 186 different species, including:

11 bird species

1 amphibian (smooth newt)

8 butterfly species

3 fish species

9 bee species

12 beetle species

120 plant species

and many more!

The next day, divers from Reefy explored the underwater area of Tidal Park Keilehaven. It was exciting to see plants and tiny snails starting to grow in the underwater forest. The water is still a bit cloudy, but the water plants will help clear it up over time.
