NEWBUILT_ Last year we were commissioned to design this striking eye-catcher on the corner of the access road to Nielt in North Brabant. De Nielt is a residential island in Cuijk with a combination of small-scale terraced houses and taller residential buildings with bold features such as loggias or balconies designed to combine comfort and style without disrupting the building's lines.

Our building has a bold appearance, but is not overly grand or heavy. By applying various design principles, we achieve elegant forms that contribute to a harmonious appearance. We have created a dynamic and modern look by allowing parts of the building to protrude, recede or by removing “bites” from the volume. The distribution of window openings, loggias and terraces creates a playful and inviting façade. Vertical ridges and material combinations of coarse bricks in two contrasting colours contribute to the desired rugged look. Striking vertical ridges on the accents and horizontal bands around the building and balconies give the facades a distinctive look.

The volume houses 10 two-bedroom apartments and 6 larger three-bedroom units. Each apartment has a spacious private outdoor area, a private parking space and access to a communal bicycle room. The larger apartments also have their own storage room.
