Design Research Climate Adaptive Stations

Torrential rains, periods of prolonged drought, a succession of tropical days: it requires adaptation of our stations and station areas. Commissioned by Bureau Spoorbouwmeester, NS and ProRail, Flux worked on the design research Climate Adaptive Stations, which developed concrete design tools for dealing with climate change at stations. In the design research, a GIS analysis was done of 25 stations in the Netherlands on 22 different climate issues and a specific climate profile and associated transition path was made for each station. This transition path links directly to the climate assignment, the strategy to be followed and matching measures for the stations. This transition path can be completed for each station in the Netherlands, providing a clear picture of the climate challenge, the strategy to be followed and the associated measures.

Green vision for Eindhoven completed

has completed the green vision for Eindhoven. The project contains a vision on a further greening of the city center in which opportunities for biodiversity, climate and mobility are exploited. As an elaboration and first step within the green vision, 10 new green spots have been designed. Commissioned by the municipality of Eindhoven and in collaboration with , and Bureau Stadsnatuur.

Amsterdam has a great tradition of investing heavily in green areas with major urban expansions. In the 1940s and 1950s, for example, 50,000 homes were built in neighborhoods such as Bos en Lommer and Buitenveldert, with extensive park landscapes in between: the wedges of the city. Now, more than 70 years later, the hedges are under increasing pressure due to the colossal building assignment and the climate problem. Together with 3 other design offices, has conducted research into the future of the Wedges, where the Wedges as the green counterpart of the city, not only offers space for recreation and relaxation, but can also yield productive, ecological or economic added value. Within this study, Flux was responsible for the Waterland Wedge and the Zaanse Wedge.

Completed roofgarden Amsterdam Oostenburg

Four years ago, Flux has won the tender together with , and , to design and develop the area and buildings at Oostenburg. The roofgarden ‘De Keijzer’ has been completed now, a natural and strong rooflandscape, designed by Flux. Last week, the mayor and aldermen of Breda approved the design proposal from the design team and . The design will be located at the place of the current Kadaster building, the Markendaalseweg in Breda. In the spirit of the original plans for the 'Westelijke Tuinsteden', we consider green as a structural element in the urban design. The amount of collective green and the green wedges in which 'De Baak' is positioned, give the entire strip a park-like character. Our interpretation of the plot is aimed at reinforcing the presence of the park at this location and converting the fragmentation of green into more unity. By embedding 'De Baak' in the greenery, the building is placed in the middle of the park. This creates a unity that clearly shows how buildings and park go together in the 'Westerlijke Tuinsteden'.

The design of De Baak is currently under construction.

is working on Bellevue, a tender won by Team Heijmans: with NL architects, Workshop architecten and Flux landscape architecture.
Bellevue Leidsche Rijn will have an ensemble of three components, each with its own character, but definitely forming a whole. In the project, the characteristic height difference is seen as an opportunity to make a distinctive plan.

On the south side of the plan is a green valley, which forms an almost barrier-free transition from the landscape to the housing by the stepped building with its roof landscape. By opening the blocks we created a large outdoor space with a series of collective gardens with different identities. In line with the cultural axis and located at the gatehouse, the ‘green balcony’ of Leidsche Rijn comes with a large grass staircase in the slope, a new place to stay with great quality for Leidsche Rijn centre and Utrecht.

3e participatie-bijeenkomst voor ThaK-locatie Utrecht

Afgelopen week is het stedenbouwkundig onderzoek en schetsontwerp voor de sloop-nieuwbouwlocatie aan het Thomas à Kempisplantsoen te Utrecht afgerond met een derde participatie-bijeenkomst.
Vorig jaar werd het team M3H architecten en Flux landscape architecture gekozen als ontwerpteam voor deze locatie bij de entree van de 'oude stad' vanuit Leidsche Rijn. Door het slopen van de na-oorlogse woningbouw, die in een slechte staat verkeerd, ontstaat er ruimte voor ca 350 woningen.
Binnenkort wordt er gestart met de uitwerking van het landschapsontwerp en de architectonische uitwerking voor de woningen op deze markante Utrechtse locatie.
In opdracht van woningbouwverenigingen Portaal en Mitros en in samenwerking met gemeente Utrecht.

Third participation-meeting for ThaK Utrecht

In the past week the urban design research and sketch design for the demolition- and new construction site at the Thomas à Kempisweg in Utrecht, has been finished with a third participationmeeting.
Last year the team M3H architects and Flux landscape architecture have been chosen as design-team for this location, near the entrance of the ‘old city’. By demolishing the post-war housing, which is in poor condition, there will be space for ca 350 new homes.
Soon the team will start with the development of the landscape design and the architectonical design for the homes at this remarkable location in Utrecht.
Commissioned by housing corporations Portaal and Mirtos and in collaboration with the municipality of Utrecht.

Proeftuin Erasmusveld Den Haag winnaar SKG Award!

De Stichting Kennis Gebiedsontwikkeling reikte de prijs voor duurzame gebiedsontwikkeling uit aan het duurzame woongebied Erasmusveld. Flux landscape architecture won in 2017 de prijsvraag voor het stedenbouwkundig plan samen met Ard Hoksbergen en BURA. Erna ontwierp Flux het openbare parklandschap, een watertuin, een nieuwe voetgangersbrug en een collectief binnenhof.

Proeftuin Erasmusveld The Hague wins SKG Award!

The foundation Stichting Kennis Gebiedsontwikkeling presented the award for sustainable area development to the durable residential area of Erasmusveld. Flux won a competition for the urban design for this project in 2017, together with Ard Hoksbergen and Bura. After that Flux designed the public park-landscape, a watergarden, a new pedestrian bridge and communal courtyard which will be realised in 2021.

Lezing TU Delft

Gerwin de Vries heeft een lezing gegeven op de TU Delft over het ontwerpen aan natuur en landschap in stedelijke ontwikkelingen. De lezing dient als inspiratie voor een ontwerpatelier over de A12 zone in Utrecht, waar studenten stedenbouw en landschapsarchitectuur de komende maanden aan zullen werken.
