The apartment building we have been designing for Sandnes’ Havneparken waterfront area is on sale now! Here a look at all 71 apartments’ floor plans and their large terraces, not two alike!

Havneparken is a completely new district with a unique set of qualities that can’t be found anywhere else in Sandnes. The new housing building on the pier offers large waterfront views complemented with a more intimate and car-free urban space with streets and parks, just a stone’s throw away from Langgata and the region's largest public transport hub and city park at Ruten. The district is planned as a "complete" neighborhood with both housing, commercial spaces, services and office spaces. The district will have its own bus stop in Jernbaneveien and the buildings are designed in a way that allows as many people as possible to take advantage of sea views. Building heights are carefully adapted to avoid shadows from neighboring buildings and ensure as much sun as possible on the public and private outdoor spaces.

In the same way that the city plan facilitates for a variety of activities and experiences, 74 housing units are planned in the first construction phase. The architecture is a result of as many apartments as possible getting both panoramic views and a terraces facing the sea and filtering light into a sheltered balcony with orientation to the southwest. This is solved by the apartments being oriented approx. 45 degrees to the north-south axis and thanks to the stepping down of the building in all four directions.

The building is bounded by four different outdoor spaces. To the south, a generous park area will be established, to the east there will be a harbor promenade and the opportunity to sit by the water's edge. To the north, the building borders the district square and to the west, the Sports Square will be established, where training activities will be arranged. In the extension of Sports Square, a generous stairwell leads up to a planted common outdoor area on level 2. This will be the building's main access and provides the opportunity for social interaction between the residents.

In 2019, Spacegroup has been engaged by the Holmestrand municipality to study the development opportunities for the Hakan/Krana area in central Holmestrand. The feasibility study is the result of a broad involvement of the actors working in the area today, and the inhabitants of Holmestrand. Everyone agrees that the area has a significantly greater potential for the city than how it is used today, and through the process have made many proposals for a change in use of the harbour area. The proposals focus on freeing up larger areas for recreation to facilitate activities that enable residents and visitors to use the area as an attraction destination in the city. The purpose of the Feasibility Study has been to identify dependencies between the actors operating in the area today, make the resources in the area visible and what values can contribute to securing future-oriented decisions for the area.

Eventually making accessible larger parts of Langøya for public traffic, this area will become a new resource for Holmestrand with great recreational and commercial value. The goal is for Hakan / Krana to become an integral part of Holmestrand city center, and a year-round destination that integrates the city with the sea for the benefit of those who work, live and visit Holmestrand.

Experiences from other cities indicates that it is a great advantage that the municipality remains a landowner and rents out the land resources for desired purposes. A good urban planning strategy is the fastest and most affordable way to a low-emission society based on proven principles of mix of functions and proximity for daily life activities without pushing the problem onto future generations and seeking for technological innovation to solve it.

Completed in 2016, Hammerbakken House is a mediation between the highly particular needs of a handicapped child and the domestic needs of a family. A low-budget private residence, the client requested ’quantity over quality’ in order to maximize the child’s usable space and on-site experiences.

The residence is elevated to allow direct car access to the entrance and lift. Above, a sequence of volumes folds around a private garden. A pool completes the loop. Prefabricated concrete was chosen for its robust and durable qualities, and detailing was kept to a minimum. The residence is extremely open, with large common spaces oriented to capture a rich variety of views, but also offers the possibility to withdraw into individual enclosures, acknowledging the need for privacy.

The sketch developed by Spacegroup for a client for a meditation temple plays with the light filtering from above into the space. The retreat is orientated towards the sky and each of the faces of the cube oriented toward a cardinal direction. A central space sheltered by a heavy frame creates an internal “womb”. Made of wood, glass and a heavy grounded stone slab, the design seeks a simple material expression.
