Haugen/Zohar Arkitekter

Haugen/Zohar Arkitekter Haugen/Zohar Arkitekter (HZA) is an Oslo based practice founded in 2007 by architects Marit Justine

HZA was initiated on the common perception that architecture is by its nature, earthbound, drawn by and for people. In our work we seek the very basic relationship between space and body.

The practice first project was our own living space, drawn and built with our bare hands. The act of building from the very beginning raised our interest in how to build, parallel with the interest in what to b

uild. The practice second project was a self-initiated long venture for our neighbourhood in Oslo. By transforming an electrical supplier into a community house with the aim to arise community engagement for a common benefit. The practice third project was an art project for Oslo Sculpture Biennale, introducing a familiar, but a faraway scenario in which 500 empty tents occupied the park surrounding the Vigeland Museum. That installation laid out the most economic type of shelter, on probably the most expansive piece of land in Norway.

These three firstborn projects resonate the main objectives of the practice: The commitment of drawing versatile structures, enhancing social sustainability and create affordable architecture.

RITUALS
There is something profoundly grounding about working with earth and water. These materials, drawn from the land itself, shape RITUALS - our new installation at the resting place by Einavatnet.

RITUALS is our winning proposal for Tankeplasser, the series of art installations along the Norwegian pilgrimage route. Created as a gift to those who walk across Norway, the work invites pilgrims to pause and engage in simple, timeless gestures - lighting a fire, washing with water, reconnecting with the elements
Two installations embody this: a hillside fireplace, built collectively with the rammed earth technique, and a lakeside water sieve of brass and stone, offering clear water to all who pass.

With gratitude to Vestre Toten Municipality and to everyone who made this possible:
Maxwell Rodencal / Raw Studio - .work guidance in rammed earth
Leif Strandbakken – clay
Jan Erik Strande – carpenter & formwork

NITJA - new center of contemporary art

We are happy to give Lillestrøm city a new national vibrant art scene!

NITJA, is a part of an urban renewal in the cultural quarter in Lillestrøm. Today, urban renewal projects are crucial to the success of the city, as they unlock underutilized areas for jobs, culture and investment. Projects like this help stimulate local economy, support current businesses and attract new ones, increase property values, infuse a sense of civic pride and foster citizen engagement.

Big win with Oslo Works!

Together with good friends at , HZA was recently awarded the commission to develop Christian Krohgs gate 2 in central Oslo.
Our team has won the parallel commission after competing against Dyrvik Arkitekter and Kristin Jarmund Arkitekter.

The project aims to combine building preservation, transformation and adaptable reuse with new building volumes at this central riverside location, focusing strongly on material reuse and other circular principles for urban development. Furthermore, the project suggests an ambitious strategy for boosting social entrepreneurship and a general desire to contribute to a socially sustainable urban growth through an active programming, with local relevance.

Happy days.
Team HZA is proud and honored to deliver the key to NITJA, the new centre for contemporary art in Lillestrøm.

The art centre is the result of our first prize entry in the architecture competition, invited by Lillestrøm municipality in 2015.

The compact building preserves as much as possible of the site and welcomes a playful urban park, which came through with an inspiring collaboration with in
