Kristin Jarmund Architects

Kristin Jarmund Architects This is the official page for Kristin Jarmund Architects. Today the practice maintains disciplines of Architecture, Planning and Interior Design.

The practice of Kristin Jarmund Arkitekter AS, established in 1985, has during the years attained a high profile on the architectural scene in Norway. This is confirmed with a series of awards and 1st prizes received in both private and open competitions. The practice’s best known works are a range of renowned schools (Råholt, Gjerdrum) and university buildings (National Dental Faculty, Westerdals

School of Communication), several headquarter buildings (Fokus Bank, Eitzen Group HQ, local HQ for Mercedes Benz) complex residential projects (Kvartal 42, Haslevangen) as well as a series of awarded interiors (The National Gallery in Oslo, The Arts and Crafts Museum in Bergen). The Norwegian Embassy Complex in Kathmandu, Nepal is a key project in the history of the office, bringing our Scandinavian design tradition in dialog with local building traditions. The office is currently expanding its international reach with the design for a combined Embassy for Norway and the Netherlands in Nairobi, Kenya. The practice´s design philosophy aims at solutions that reduce complex problems to simplicity in form and function, yet still allowing for a sensitive awareness to context and the human dimension. Whilst keeping a sharp eye on the end result, we are well aware that good results come from successful processes. Making great architecture has always been a team-effort. Now more than ever the result of our work depends on a close collaboration with a number of players; the client, public administration, specialised consultants, conservation authorities and above all the end users. At Kristin Jarmund Arkitekter AS we have the skills and experience to guide and nurture the process through every phase of a project, from public planning through schematic design and construction documents - to successful execution on site.

This week, we submitted the new proposed plan for Oslo Horizon, the KLP high-rise project at Oslo S, to PBE/Oslo planning authority. The project will transform Oslo´s old mail sorting center into new commercial and office space comprising 3500 workspaces and more than 3000 cycle parking spaces at the transportation hub, a new entrance to Oslo Central Station and an expansive green roofscape giving the public a sweeping vista over the fjord city.

Oslo Horizon is one of the largest reuse projects Norway has ever seen, guided by the ambition of strengthening Oslo's position as a global pioneer within sustainable renewal.

The design team includes , and .

Illustrasjon:

Transformation and re-use lie at the heart of our new proposals at Oslo central station. Working in collaboration with and , the scheme re-incarnates the existing ‘Brevsenter’ post headquarters as new, multi-function public space, while two additional high-rise volumes placed on top complete the picture.

This project is a credit to our client, KLP Eiendom, whose commitment to environmentally sustainable development perseveres in spite of complexities in the planning process. The chosen strategy marries the re-use of 30,000 cubic meters of existing concrete, with cutting-edge new design. As the project develops, we look forward to exploring key themes such as public accessibility into spaces placed high above ground level, and the identity of what will be one of Oslo’s key landmarks.
