Cause : ❄️ 1. Low Refrigerant Flow / Restriction in the System

Possible restrictions at the TXV (Thermostatic Expansion Valve), filter drier, or capillary tube can reduce refrigerant flow, causing very low pressure on the suction side — which leads to frosting.

Check for blocked or clogged filter drier or strainer inside the TXV.

🔁 2. Evaporator Fan or Airflow Issues

If the evaporator fan is not running or air filters/coils are dirty, it can prevent heat exchange, leading to liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor, causing icing.

Check the indoor blower motor, air filters, and coil cleanliness.

💨 3. Low Refrigerant Charge

Undercharging can cause low suction pressure and improper evaporation, resulting in frosting on the suction line and compressor.

Perform superheat/subcooling tests and pressure readings to confirm.

⚙️ 4. Faulty Thermostat or TXV Malfunction

If the TXV is stuck open or closed, it can cause too much or too little refrigerant to flow into the evaporator.

This again leads to floodback or freezing.

🧊 5. Compressor Floodback

Liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor can cause it to frost over.

This is dangerous and can damage the compressor over time.

🔧 Recommendations:

✅ Check evaporator airflow (blower operation, filters, coils).

✅ Measure suction and discharge pressures.

✅ Check superheat and subcooling.

✅ Inspect TXV/filter drier for blockage or clog.

✅ Ensure correct refrigerant charge using weighing or gauges.

✅ Look for non-condensables or moisture in the system.
