Let's be real: although moving into a new place is quite exciting, the moving itself is not fun, and can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. 😅

However, I’ve got you 7 moving hacks to make your life way easier! Check them out:

1️⃣ Use clothes/scarves/towels to wrap breakable items.
Instead of buying expensive packing paper, use items you already have to protect breakable items during the moving process.🧣

2️⃣ Label the SIDE of your boxes, not the top.
This is a huge moving hack: when you label the side of the boxes, you can still know what is in each one when you stack them up. 🏷

3️⃣ Get smaller boxes.
When boxes are too big, you’ll have at least two people carrying them, which makes it harder to carry up and down the stairs. 📦

4️⃣ Pack socks into your boots and shoes.
Socks are an awkward thing to pack because they usually end up going everywhere. Store them in your shoes and boots for time and space-saving. 🧦

5️⃣ Tape screws and bolts on the back of the furniture piece.
If you’re taking apart furniture, an easy way to avoid losing its pieces is is by putting them in a ziplock bag and duct-taping them to the back of the furniture piece. 🔩

6️⃣ Use coordinating sticky notes on boxes and rooms to easily know where things belong.
For example, you can put a pink sticky note on a bedroom door and then any box that is suppose to go into the bedroom also has a pink one on it. This makes you move it so much easier and it will definitely be appreciated by those who are helping you move. 🚪

7️⃣ Have an "Open First" box.
It allows you to put everything important that you need for that first night. Take it with you in your car to ensure it doesn't get lost in the moving process. Here’s some suggestions of what to put in your box:
🧻 Toilet paper & paper towels
✂️ Scissors
🪥 Toothbrush and toothpaste
🧴 Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and towels
👖 Pyjamas & outfit for the next day

Did you know that a messy home contributes to stress, anxiety, and bad family relationships? 😳

Research proves that decluttering on an everyday basis can benefit your physical and mental health. Start including organisation in your day-to-day life, whether it’s writing a to-do list or putting your clothes away. You’ll soon feel less stressed about your chores and you’re able to enjoy your surroundings while you think more efficiently and cleanly. 💕

Have you heard of the Pareto principle, also known as the 80/20 rule? 🤔

Every day, when I’m organising clients’ homes, I see how this principle is applicable. For example:

• 80% of the time people wear the same 20% of their clothes.

• 80% of the time people eat the same 20% of their food.

• 80% of the time kids play with the same 20% of their toys. And so on!

When clients recognise how the 80/20 rule applies to their lives, it seems to free them up to edit their homes more authentically!

Use this principle to your advantage when curating your:
– Closet (Out go those painful designer high heels you bought in your late 20s. In are your slip-on sneakers, which you wear nearly every day!);

– Pantry (Out go those stale crackers you bought for your once-a-year party. In is the jar of peanut butter for the kids’ daily sandwiches!)

– Toiletries (Out goes the expensive shampoo that smells funny. In is your must-have moisturizer!)

– Holiday decor (Out goes that strange tree ornament. In is your favourite cozy “Sugar Cookie” candle!)

Are there other examples in your life or home where you can apply the 80/20 principle to be more productive? Tell me in the comments below! 👇🏻

Does your home look messy, no matter how hard you try to tidy it up? 😳

Here's a list with 5 mistakes you might be making:
1️⃣ Too much open storage
Open shelves are great for books or art, but it works better when it's not overcrowded. To achieve a cleaner look, reduce the arrangement so you can leave some gaps between items. If organising electronics, cables, games, movies and toys, the best idea is to store them in cabinets, boxes, or baskets.

2️⃣ Too many colours
Decorating with too many colours is guaranteed to make a home look cluttered. Our tip is to use one or two hues combined with neutral colours to give your home a cohesive and relaxed look.

3️⃣ Hanging pictures randomly
Pictures and wall art hung randomly across a wall creates a chaotic look that can overwhelm the space. Instead, group pictures in a gallery wall arrangement to instantly make the room appear more organised and balanced.

4️⃣ Too many objects on tables
Too many accessories on tables make your home look cluttered. Instead, reduce the number of items and only display what you love and what is functional (for example, a small dish for storing car keys and sunglasses). Group many small objects in a jar or bowl.

5️⃣ Too many cushions
Avoid an untidy look by limiting the number of cushions and pillows. Two or three cushions on each end of the couch are typically the perfect amount to decorate a room.

At this point, you probably already know that getting organised can make life easier. That's why teaching organisation and time management to your kids is so important and should be included in their routine as soon as possible. It might take some effort at the beginning, but it’s worth it in the long run! ☺️

We've compiled a list of 7 activities to help kids improve these skills at home, at school, and beyond. Check it out! 👇🏻

1. GET YOUR CHILDREN INVOLVED IN ORGANISATION SKILL ACTIVITIES.
It can be a shopping list, laundry sorting, or cooking following recipe instructions for example.

2. MAKE A PLAN!
Ask your kids about tricks they find useful for keeping organised and let them be involved in drawing up an organisational plan. Every child is unique, and no plan will work perfectly for everybody, so be aware of the things your child specifically needs and is asking for.

3. TEACH HOW TO USE A CALENDAR
This is a useful skill that will help your children be self-sufficient and practice organisational skills independently.

4. VISUAL CHECKLIST FOR DAILY ROUTINES
such as morning routine, packing backpack routine, homework routine, bedtime routine... This helps to trigger the children’s memory as they will learn to do things in a specific sequence.

5. REWARD POINT SYSTEM
reward your kids’ success of following adherence to checklists. Positive reinforcement is more effective for learning than pointing out when the child is doing something wrong or “negative.”

6. ALLOW FOR BABY-STEPS:
A big time-consuming task can be overwhelming, especially for a child who needs motivation. Help your children make more efficient progress by breaking big projects or tasks up into a series of smaller tasks. Add those small tasks to their check-list so they can feel a sense of accomplishment as they cross them off.

7. LET YOUR KIDS FAIL
As they need to face the consequences of their disorganization and learn from their mistakes. Don't bring a forgotten agenda or lunch to school for your child if they repeatedly forget it.

Is your house lacking a winter boot storage? 🥾🥾

This simple DIY drip tray is a perfect solution to keep your wet and snowy shoes and boots organised and your house clean. All you have to do is place stones in a tray, as shown in the photo, and keep it by the entrance door, so your shoes will be always dry and close at hand next time you need them. 🤩

Home organisation is also about thinking outside the box and giving objects new functions. 💡

If you need extra space in your office, how about using corner dish racks to store papers? 🤩

You can also give it a nice touch with wooden sheets to line up the shelves to its edges, as shown in the photo, or simply buy a dish rack with wire mesh shelves like the black one in the next photo, so you don’t even need to repaint or decorate it. ✨
