People organised a boycott of David Walliams' children's books after derogatory remarks he made about contestants on Britain’s Got Talent came to light.

Recordings revealed Walliams making sexist and disrespectful comments about two contestants. In one instance, he remarked: “She thinks you want to f—k her, but you don’t... I had a bit of a b—er, but now it’s going, it’s now shrivelled up inside my body.” He also referred to an elderly contestant in a derogatory manner calling them the word beginning with c.

Despite Walliams apologising for his remarks, saying they were private and not meant for public consumption, author Evelynn Clegg urged her followers to boycott his work. She emphasised on social media: “Please don’t buy David Walliams’ books for your kids. There are so many wonderful children’s authors with integrity and empathy.”

Her post gained significant traction, with thousands expressing support for the boycott and sharing their disdain for his comments. While some criticised the decision to boycott, arguing that any reading should be encouraged among children, many others condemned Walliams' language and behavior.

Walliams, who has published numerous best-selling children’s books since 2008, faced scrutiny as his actions contradicted the positive impact his work has had on young readers.
