It’s around about this time of the year that we can prepare to plant our garlic in the garden.

Here are a few tips for when you plant out yours:

1 - Properly plan and allocate space for them as you won’t be able to use this space until the end of the year.

2 - Diversity is your friend, plant a few varieties to avoid potential spread of disease and loosing your whole crop. One variety may get disease but you will still have a few other ones…. Hopefully.

3 - Space them out. Plant in small blocks away from each other. This will help your plants to grow well with the added benefit of companion planting for both your garlic and other crops that benefit from having alliums nearby.

Because I am not spending time in the garden I have been foraging instead. I have created another page where you can see my foraging shenanigans go give a follow if you are interested in learning more about foraging.

A broadfork is one of Macos’s go to tools for building healthy soil.

It loosens compacted ground deep down without flipping the soil, keeping microbes where they belong.
This improves airflow, drainage, and nutrient uptake, leading to stronger roots, healthier plants, and easier harvesting.
