✨ Te Pare Kia Mau - Final Wānanga & Pou Unveiling ✨

Kia ora e te whānau,

Our final wānanga for Te Pare Kia Mau is set to take place next month on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st of June. This special weekend will conclude with the unveiling of the pou we have been working on over the last 6 months. Whakapiripiri tahi mai rā!

Here is a quick look at what we have planned:

- Saturday 20th June (Wānanga): We will kick off the weekend by diving back into Ngāti Tauira whakapapa, whakairo, and kōwhaiwhai, alongside activities for tamariki. We will also spend time preparing together for the next morning's ceremony.

- Sunday 21st June (Pou Unveiling): We will gather at sunrise for the official unveiling ceremony of our pou, followed by a celebratory hākari.

Kōrero on the naming of two pou currently being carved (to be installed in June)
Whakapapa kōrero to help guide naming decisions
Initial discussions on the unveiling event

Kua kainamu mai tā tātou wānanga. This is a reminder for our online wānanga this Wednesday 6th of May and our noho this weekend, 8th–10th of May.

Can’t make the working bee? You are still very welcome to attend the Whakairo Wānanga at Parewānui on the Sunday.

There’ll be kōrero, and hands-on activities for all ages to give a go, including Pou Carving 🔨 Kōwhaiwhai Painting🖌️and Tamariki Wharepuni Building 🏘️ – with some pieces you’ll be able to take home with you!

Petrol vouchers are also available for traveling whānau. Bring gumboots and a rain jacket, and if you are staying on any night, please remember to bring bedding.
