This is some great news and another step forward in the right direction. It’s important for the Arboricultural industry aswell as society to have more blanket protection on notable trees and urban canopy. ☺️🇳🇿🌳

| Recent NZ Arb Submission on Natural Environment Bill + Planning Bill

Last week NZ Arb submitted on the Government’s proposed Natural Environment Bill and Planning Bill, calling for stronger recognition and protection of Notable Trees, urban canopy cover, and Green Infrastructure.

These bills are part of the Government's proposed replacement for the current Resource Management Act.

NZ Arb is urging that tree protection — including Notable Trees, urban canopy cover and Green Infrastructure — is properly recognised and retained within the new legislation.

This work represents many hours of technical drafting and collaboration. The body of work included an individual submission template shared with members and industry on Monday 9 February. NZ Arb has also requested an opportunity to support the submission in an oral presentation in front of the select committee.

We would like to sincerely acknowledge the expertise and contribution of NZ Arb's volunteer submission working group including; Tawa de Goey, Ben Lovell, Charlotte Blakey, Jez Partridge, David Spencer, Mark Armitage and Nicky Gibbs. Their commitment has ensured our industry voice is strong, and solutions-focused during this critical phase of resource management reform.

Today our star apprentice Oscar competed in his first Tree climbing competition. He came 2nd overall in the junior arb category and placed 3rd in the throwline event. Absolutely stoked for you mate and proud of how far you have come.

As we near the end of the working year it comes to a time when I would like to thank all my valuable clients, colleagues, friends and family on another great year. It has been an interesting year again for small businesses and I feel fortunate to still be here doing my best to provide a quality and trusting arboricultural service.
