Happy New Year everyone!

Want to know what size pongas you need? A good length (that's why it's our most popular) is the 2.4 log - it gives you lots of flexibility for fence height (say if you want a 2 metre high fence, using a 2.4m log means you have 0.4m [400mm] in the ground, which gives a good solid base).

But if you have a tall fence or a high bank in mind, and need extra long logs, we can supply up to 4 metres. Drop us a line if you have any questions.

LOVE YA PONGA!

DID YOU KNOW???

Did you know about NZ's Silver Fern [which is actually called "ponga"] special place in Māori history?

Māori hunters and warriors used the silver underside of the fern leaves to mark their route. In war times, Māori warriors would lay the silver fern fronds silver side up, tips pointing in the direction they had to travel. The fronds would catch the moonlight and illuminate a path through the forest.

Did you know?

Our ponga logs are sustainable.

Yip, we are proud to say our ponga logs are from a sustainable source. They are harvested fresh from re-generating ponga stocks that grow within the pine plantation forests of the central North Island, and the best news is that the pongas quickly re-establish themselves after an area of the pine plantation has been felled.

Here's another project that was awesome to be involved with.

When Rainbow Springs in Rotorua undertook a major expansion project, Pongas Direct was fortunate to be involved in supplying ponga plants and logs for the new area.

Did you see us on MARAE DIY ON TV3 18 July?

Our fabulous ponga logs were used on this amazing project.
We were a sponsor of the Maori Television's Marae DIY project at the Rongomaraeroa o nga hau e wha Marae. That's the army marae in Waiouru.

The project was so amazing. The garden area, with the curved ponga fence surrounding this beautiful area. And the ponga fencing at the entrance to the marae. It looked amazing! Then there's a photo of the pongas truck offloading the logs, and Mark doing the offficial handshake for the cameras with the army.

It's all in the name!!

Is it Punga or Ponga?

Ponga is a New Zealand native tree fern. The Latin name for our ponga logs is Dicksonia squarrosa, also known as Brown Tree Fern or Ponga. Ponga is a Maori word that is frequently mispronounced and mispelt as punga.
