A bit of a feel good follow up to the last post, handing over a likely c.1880 tōtara sleeper from Marine Parade New Brighton to the local museum and historical society. The locals were delighted to have this new exhibit. I’ll give it a preservative treatment after it dries out a bit. Also at the end of the trench we uncovered a Loubat rail that likely belong to the period of electrification in 1903 when the privately owned flat track that originally carried horse drawn trams was repalced. It’s not covered under the heritage Act as it’s post 1900 but interesting nonetheless and I might see if I can get a bit of track cut off for the museum. Thanks to the Isaacs Construction crew who helped me with one.
