A special moment for Ashe.

I'm thrilleded to see Ashe included in this year's Design Guide within the feature 'Art of Place', sharing the story behind the gallery and the journey that brought me to creating a space for contemporary art and design in Ōtautahi Christchurch.

The feature showcases the work of Wellington textile artist Shane Morris, whose table runners, wall hangings, and cushions beautifully blur the line between art and function. Her work speaks to something I am passionate about - helping people live with art in a way that feels natural, personal, and connected to everyday life.

A wonderful feature that highlights not only Shane's thoughtful practice, but also the softer role art can play within our homes and interiors.

A huge thank you to Home Magazine for sharing the Ashe story, and to all the artists like Shane who support my little creative dream.

I'm delighted to welcome Wellington-based artist Catherine Roberts to Ashe.

Having worked with Catherine during my time in Wellington, it feels particularly special to reconnect and now represent her work here in Christchurch. Over the years, I've admired the way her practice continues to evolve—always guided by intuition, curiosity, and a deep understanding of colour, texture, and balance.

For Catherine, painting is an ongoing dialogue between artist and canvas. Working intuitively from her south coast Wellington studio, she creates layered, expressive works that embrace imperfection and invite contemplation. Rich with movement and emotion, her paintings offer space for personal interpretation, encouraging each viewer to continue the conversation.

With a career spanning more than two decades and exhibitions throughout Aotearoa, Catherine's work is both deeply personal and universally resonant.

We are thrilled to share her latest works with the Ashe community.

A little warmth for your winter’s day.

These two new works by Catherine Roberts are part of her intuitive and increasingly abstract practice, where layers of colour, gesture, and texture build rich visual language. Deep reds and warm purples are punctuated with vibrant complementary tones, creating a sense of depth, movement, and quiet energy.

Finished with Catherine’s signature resin layer, each work catches and reflects light, revealing new details with every glance.

Beautifully warm, immersive works that invite you to pause and spend time within them.

Available now at Ashe on High Street, Ōtautahi or online anytime.
