Lynne Wilson Garden Consultancy

Lynne Wilson Garden Consultancy Designer of Central Otago landscapes and gardens since 2003. My interest in design began young.

Growing up in a family of creatives exposed me to many mediums and during my working life I've drawn on them all at various times, including fabric, willow, thread. However it is clay and plants that are the mediums I now use to express my love of design. I've been designing Central Otago gardens since 2003 after moving to Cromwell in 2001. The largest would have to be the Cart Track at Highlands

Motor Sport Park, but I much prefer working with homeowners to create personal outdoor spaces that function well and give pleasure.

Every now and then I have the opportunity to revisit projects some years down the track. So when the owners of this Roxburgh property invited me to work with them on their next project a few doors down, I jumped at the chance to witness the results of their hard work and commitment to the design.

Marcus and Baxter paid a visit today. Gone is the Ash, no longer suitable as sections become smaller and homes closer.
Also the apple tree...yes I know😔...but the love for it I had in spring didn't win over the loathing at fruit-fall. Besides the variety wasn't me and I don't own a hors
Now for the woven screens I plan to construct next month to sit along the fence top.
Lovely job thank you Marcus...can't even see where you've been. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You guys know how much I LOVE gardening, but there is a part of gardening that I HATE - all the plastic pots!!! It’s every gardeners dirty secret that they have a stash of plastic pots piled up in a garden shed (including me!). So this lead me to thinking of and developing this - - with my friend Polly. We’ve tested them out over the last two years and it’s IN-CRE-DI-BLE how they completely break down in the soil, literally leaving no trace, as well as feeding the plant, soil and microbiology at the same time - as wool acts like a slow-release fertiliser adding so much goodness to the soil. Wool is such an amazing, truly renewable fibre that completely bio-degrades and returns back to the earth. So I’m stoked to have played a part in creating something that, I hope🤞, is going to help reduce plastics in our environment!!

Help us to restore biodiversity to Central Otago.
We are planting 90 Olearia hectorii tree seedlings at Flat Top Hill next Saturday 18th 1-3pm.
Olearia hectorii/hectors tree daisy (Nationally endangered) is an extremely hardy tree that was once present in lowland Central Otago. Habitat loss has virtually eliminated this graceful tree from Central Otago.
Watch this wonderful “Meet then locals” video for more information on this threatened tree species.

The Sanctuary Garden has been a recurring theme of mine over the years. Places of respite from the every day world.
Ideally it should offer a sense of privacy and discovery, which means 'walls' (preferably green), shade, seating, and planting that offers year round interest as well as seasonal joy. I would add water but in our dry climate it is best saved for vital irrigation.
None of which is an easy task when faced with a large corner section housing an historic church with very close neighbours, but one I'm delighted to be involved in.
Cromwell's St Andrew's parish have taken the decision to 'future-proof' the 150 (2024) year old stone church and grounds for the community's continued use as a place of historic importance. This includes an outdoor wedding venue and sanctuary garden with opportunity for family memorial trees and seating
Meanwhile, the church itself will host arts events as well as congregational services.
Work begins with the removal of several 'unworthy' trees. Will keep you posted as work progresses.

Willow is such a valuable resource when grown with purpose and beauty in mind.
Coppiced willow provides canes for woven garden structures/art, while it has been long since used by northern European farmers as a valuable supplementary feed for livestock over dry summer months.
