🥒🫙 Looks like I don’t need to tell some of you this….. 👀

But… the famous pickles and jams are now in the stall!

🥶 With the cold weather now here, we decided to move them on out!

🙌 Looks like someone bet me to telling you, a few have been snapped up already 🫰

📦 We’ve moved…….!!!

🚗 Easier loading! Perfect time to be replenishing those hard working gardens 💪

🌼 We’ve also just popped out the hanging gate/fence pots 🤩

🌿 We were lucky enough to spend the day at a one-day propagation course at Otago Polytech Central Campus earlier this month 🌱

💚It was great getting hands-on, learning more about propagation, and chatting with genuinely knowledgeable staff who clearly love what they do.

If you’ve ever thought about doing one of the Otago Polytech horticulture courses or one-day courses, we’d definitely recommend giving it a go 💚

Always something new to learn in the garden and a great day sharing with like minded people! 🪏 👩‍🌾

Tiny hands. Big confidence. Zero accuracy 😅🌿

🫘 DID YOU KNOW 🫘

You may have thought I was weirdo with my story poll asking yes/no to Broad beans 🤦🏼‍♀️

BUT!!! Did you know…… Broad beans are one of the easiest ways to improve soil health over the cooler months.

🌱 As they grow, their roots work with natural soil bacteria to fix nitrogen from the air and store it in the soil — feeding future crops without needing added fertiliser.

But it’s not just nutrients.
Their root systems help open up the soil, improving structure, drainage, and airflow. When left in the ground, those roots break down and become organic matter — feeding the microbes that keep soil alive.

Instead of leaving beds bare over winter, beans keep the soil covered, active, and protected from weather and nutrient loss.

It’s a simple way to build better soil now, so everything you plant later has a stronger start 🌱💚

🔑 So whether you like to eat them, or not, you’ll learn to love them with the key benefits they provide to your soil! 😍

❤️ Put some love back into your garden over the cooler months and watch it give back over the warmer months!!!

🍂 A little colour goes a long way this time of year 🌸

🥶 As the colder months settle in, the garden can start looking a bit sleepy — but a few flowers can completely brighten up a space through autumn and winter 💚

We’ve got flowers available at the stall to keep the colour going while everything else slows down to keep you positive until Spring 🌿

23/04/2026

🥶 Don’t let the cold weather dampen your spirits!

🌸 Brighten up your life!

The garden’s putting on a bit of a show at the moment 🌸

A mix of flowers all in bloom and ready to go — plenty of colour to brighten up your garden or pots.

✨ With the way things are at the moment, growing your own food doesn’t have to cost the earth. A few scraps, some homemade compost, and a bit of space can go a long way.

The evidence: we struck GOLD while weeding beside the stall yesterday 🥔✨

These potatoes weren’t planted with any big plan — just good old horse manure 💩 and letting nature do its thing.

It’s not about being perfect — just starting somewhere 🌱💚

There’s a heap of info available online these days if you are stuck, or if you’re after some inspo be sure to follow along the likes of Nature thrivesnz who has sooo much inspiring info for food forests with limited space.

NZ Gardening On A Budget group, full of like minded gardeners and a group of knowledgeable gardeners. No question is a dumb question. The Spicy Gardener does a fab job of keeping this page going 💕

St Kilda Seed Library and Seedling Stall. also has amazing advice on how to save your own seed, costing you nothing out of your pocket for years to come!

People are always willing to give the advice, you just have to ask!
