Strengthening Community Preparedness Across the Coast

Last week, the team travelled throughout the rohe to restock Emergency Food Containers, helping ensure our communities are prepared and supported when emergencies arise.

These containers provide an important layer of support for whānau and communities during times of isolation, severe weather events, and other emergencies. Having resources readily available helps enable an immediate response when support is needed most.

A huge mihi to everyone involved in helping keep these vital resources stocked, maintained, and ready for our communities.

Your mahi plays an important role in strengthening resilience across the coast. 💙

Community Commissioning Proposal Update

Following a due diligence process and consideration of the information available, Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou has determined it will not participate in the current SIA Community Commissioning EOI proposal that closed today.

While the Board acknowledges the aspirations behind the initiative, a number of important matters remained unresolved and insufficient certainty was available to support participation within the timeframe provided.

The Board has considered advice relating to governance, accountability, Treaty settlement interests, Crown relationships, the need for proper iwi engagement and other matters identified through its assessment process.

***Community Commissioning – Initial Questions from Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou***

As part of our ongoing due diligence, Te Rūnanganui o Ngāti Porou has provided an initial set of questions to the Social Investment Agency and the Community Commissioning Working Group following recent discussions.

These questions are intended to help us better understand the proposed model, including how decisions would be made, how Treaty relationships and mana motuhake would be protected, how conflicts of interest would be managed, and what the implications may be for Ngāti Porou whānau, hapū, providers and communities.

This is Version 1 of our questions and forms part of a wider process of information gathering, legal consideration and engagement.
We remain committed to ensuring any future decisions are approached carefully, transparently, and with the interests of whānau and hapū at the centre.
