We’re back this week with Part 4 of our Quick Cuts - this next step is all about how to choose supply and size defaults in our online ordering portal.

The key takeaways?

✅You’ve got options: Do you want your order to be fully assembled or delivered to you flat-packed? Would you like adjustable legs included? If you’d prefer to assemble the cabinets yourself, would you like hardware supplied along with it? It’s entirely up to you.

✅The “Standard 1” default size option works for 90% of our kitchen cabinet designs - but please reach out to our team if you’re unsure.

✅ Our default gap size settings also tend to suit 90% of kitchen cabinet projects. If you’re a DIYer looking to get creative, we recommend chatting with one of the Cutshop® team to make sure you don’t run into any surprises when applying non-standard gap sizes.

Working with Cutshop® enabled homeowners Travis and Ruveena to customise the measurements of their cabinetry and achieve the exact colour range they wanted in this kitchen renovation.

“We were moving into the house in a couple of months and the kitchen was very very old - it had chipboard floors that you could probably go through if you jumped too hard in certain places”, tells Travis. “We wanted to update the kitchen while we were doing some other changes in that part of the house and I was foolish enough to think let’s try DIY!. It was a very dark, closed-in kitchen, so we wanted something modern that would help to brighten the house up a little bit.”

Originally, Travis and Ruveena reached out to Cutshop® to see if we could source a new colour range of Laminex panelling that they couldn’t find anywhere else.

“They came back to us within a day, and then I think it took about a week to get it loaded onto the system so that we could select it.”

With their modern kitchen renovation completed in April, the pair say they are “Really happy with how it’s come out. We’ve had lots of compliments.” They’re now waiting on the arrival of their next Cutshop® order: cabinets for their laundry.

Curious about what colour options are available within our online portal? We’re glad you asked!

In our Exterior Colour Selections tab, you have endless options to choose from including Alabaster, Belgian Oak, Biscuit, Bleached Walnut - you name it!

In the Substrate field, choose between vertical-grain wood (the standard choice) and horizontal-grain (an increasingly popular alternative). If you’d prefer the horizontal-grain look, just be aware that the cutting process does create height limitations when designing cabinetry featuring a horizontal grain.

Earlier in the week we promised we’d be sharing our top tips for making hardware selections in our online portal that fall within your experience level and budget. Here they are:

𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗜𝗬𝗲𝗿𝘀/𝗯𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀:

If the idea of customisation seems daunting, we recommend you opt for our default specs: they reflect our most popular hardware options. You could not change a thing here and still end up with something that looks and functions great.

If you’re on a budget, we have plenty of standard hinges to choose from - we also offer soft-close drawers for those wanting something smooth, quiet and a little more luxurious. For drawer systems, our generic ball-bearing selection is a cost-effective choice. As for cabinet tops, we recommend leaving this section as-is to achieve a straightforward result - although you are most welcome to call us should you have any specific requirements.

This part of the design process can have a large impact on the overall cost of your project - so we recommend keeping an eye on the estimated quote as you explore the drawer options.
