Renovations, Extensions and New Builds give us a ring today.

We have chosen the renovation market because we are passionate about saving older homes and bringing them back into the modern era. You will see some pictures of my own home that will give an indication of the quality of workmanship we can offer. We can balance the old and contemporary by keeping the period features of the home and then offering a modern twist by building a new extension giving the home indoor outdoor flow and creating a real wow factor.

Kaleb & Lisa first approached us back in 2021 with plans for a major renovation, but with the country in and out of lockdown and materials hard to source, the project was put on hold.

Fast forward to early 2024, and we were back on site and ready to go. 🔨

This wasn’t a job where knocking down and starting again was an option. The site is steep, with the land dropping sharply to the sea, and the home perched on poles to make the most of those unreal coastal views. 🌊

With challenging access and exposed conditions, a fully wrapped scaffold was key, giving the team a dry, sheltered workspace so progress could continue no matter the weather.

A challenging site, a unique build, and a project we genuinely enjoyed being part of.

Some builds stay with you, not just for the final result, but for the journey it took to get there.

This home was built at the height of Covid, a time when challenges on site and behind the scenes were immense. Supply shortages, constant change, and uncertainty made this one of the most demanding projects we’ve taken on.

Now, seeing the landscaping come to life and complement this one-off build on the edge of Porongia National Park makes it all worthwhile.

The house sits on screw piles, something new for our team at the time. With tricky ground conditions, they proved to be the best solution. Once installed, progress moved quickly, bearers, subfloor, and framing followed efficiently. For a difficult site, it was a smart and effective way to get the build out of the ground.

Our client Veronica, a landscape architect, brought incredible passion to the project. She carefully researched and selected products to suit her vision, from OSB flooring and Australian hardwood decking and cladding, to the tongue-and-groove cedar ceiling flowing through the open-plan living spaces, not to mention the plywood linings with bold negative detail.

This was a rewarding build during a very stressful period for our team. Strategic planning made all the difference, with timber secured and stored six months in advance, we were ready when it mattered.

A challenging project, a great result, and a testament to preparation, collaboration, and teamwork.

Here we have a Lockwood home that we are renovating out on a farm in Te Akau. The boys have really got stuck in the first few weeks back. We’re all looking forward to seeing how this project turns out.

As we continue rolling through projects after the Christmas break, we’re proud to keep celebrating the subcontractors who help make our work safe, efficient, and well executed.

🪜 Featuring Edgeworx Scaffolding 🪜

When The Reno Guys first started back in 2013, we were on the lookout for reliable contractors we could trust. Over the years, our projects have grown significantly, and our team has risen to the challenge every step of the way.

Good access on large projects is critical, and when it comes to the big jobs, we often need to fully wrap sites to keep things moving regardless of the weather. These are large-scale builds, and Edgeworx consistently tackles them without fault.

Special acknowledgment must be made for Edgeworx Scaffolding’s massive contribution to the Te Mata Hall makeover completed last year. This was a community-funded project, and their support was huge—supplying the extensive scaffold with no hire charge and erecting and dismantling it at cost price. This generosity literally saved the project thousands. (Te Mata Public Hall 1905 Incorporated.)

A big thanks to Matt, Donna, Sunny, and the entire Edgeworx team for delivering on every job, big or small. You guys are legends 💪

🚙 Meet Clifford 🚙

Dan’s connection to Clifford goes all the way back to around 2003, when Dan was serving in the New Zealand Army as a Carpenter with the Royal New Zealand Engineers.

Clifford actually belongs to Dan’s good mate Andrew, who he joined the Army with (also an Engineer) and who’s now based in Fiji. For now, Dan’s proudly looking after Andrew’s beloved pickup and making sure it still gets out and about.

With some custom-made roof racks recently added, Clifford is back in action, perfect for the occasional timber run and cruising the roads once again. He gets smiles and waves everywhere he goes, and if you’re near the Waitomo fuel station, you might just spot him stopping for a big drink.

⭐ Fun fact: Clifford is NZ New, pretty rare, as most F100s were imported from Australia. And yes… he’s right-hand drive.

Old school, full of character, and still turning heads.

We were approached by Mike & Sheila whilst working on another property just up the road. They wanted to give their Hamilton home a much-needed makeover, and what a transformation it turned out to be. ✨⁣

Initially the project began as a reclad and re pitch of the garage roof. The tiled roof was pretty tired and was not worth saving given the steep pitch and the fragility of the concrete tiles, so a long run replacement roof was ordered with new spouting and downpipes.

It pushed the team right up to Christmas 2024, but the results speak for themselves, this once-tired home is now one of the tidiest on the street. 💯⁣
