It is finally the season for outdoor living.
One of the last jobs for the year was to get these two sets of outdoor tables and benches complete and delivered.
Simple but solid design.

This Blanket Box was made from Kauri Slabs supplied by my client. One of the slabs used was very gummy, keeping the timber much greener than the rest.
This presented me with the perfect opportunity to add feature resessed panels to the design. Very happy with the end result.

This job was a little bit extra rewarding for me.
Tables and bench seats for the primary school that I attended as a young fella. Tables made from Swamp Kauri that I milled on a local farm, bench seats made from Chestnut that I also milled from a local property.

I had the pleasure to deliver these tables to the school that my beautiful wife is now the Deputy Principal of.
And had my retired Dad help me apply the oil, final assembly and deliver this awesome set that will last a lifetime.

My Dad started this business with my Mum Nearly 40 years ago.

The business has chopped and changed with the times over the years, we are still going strong and I am extremely proud to be in charge of keeping the business moving forward and producing solid timber projects of all sorts.

A bit of a transformation.
I have cleared my timber corner out in order to make room for a second CNC machine.
This will be a great addition to my workshop and allow me to increase production.
Things are crazy busy at the moment so it will be awesome to get this machine up and running to help me out a bit.

American Oak Job lot ready to go out the door.
Check out the detail on the drawer fronts, 4mm battens with a 4mm groove 2mm deep.
This is actually a very effective design that I quite liked.
Sanding the grooves not so much...
Oiling and cleaning out excessive oil even less so...

None the less the finished product looked amazing.

1st coat of sealer after planing.
There are a few porous parts of the slab that need to be sealed up properly.

Looking pretty good.

European Oak job lot ready to go for stain and Lacquer finish.
European Oak has a much more consistent colour and grain than American Oak.
This will be an awesome feature in the clients home when installed.

Self employment, and having no staff definitely has it's advantages in a challenging economic climate.
However it does make getting a cool video tricky haha.

Filling this table up with the final epoxy pour. I am very happy with the result of the 2 epoxy pours, black at the bottom and clear with just a touch of black on top. You can still see the edge of the slab from top and it disappears into blackness. Can't wait to finish this off.

First pour, black deep pour epoxy. I will top this off with a clear epoxy with just a touch of black so the natural edge is still visible from the top.
