Every project starts with the site.

Understanding orientation, views, and how the building sits within the landscape is what drives the overall design.

Get that right early, and everything else tends to fall into place.

While the exterior responds to the landscape, the interior is where that connection is felt most directly.

Framed views, natural materials, and controlled light all work together to create a calm, grounded living space.

The aim is always the same — spaces that feel as good to live in as they look.

Starvation Hill House
North Canterbury

The house is organised as a series of simple, legible volumes — with a clear central entry anchoring the plan and separating primary living spaces from more private areas.

This clarity allows the building to read as a single composed form, while accommodating the practical requirements of a rural home.

Starvation Hill House
North Canterbury

Set within an expansive rural landscape, the house is carefully positioned to balance openness with shelter — framing long views while maintaining privacy and protection from prevailing conditions.

The plan and form are intentionally restrained, allowing the architecture to sit quietly within its setting rather than compete with it.

Starvation Hill House
North Canterbury

A bespoke rural home designed with restraint — balancing strong form with carefully controlled openings to frame distant views while maintaining shelter and privacy.

Developed from early concept through consent, with a focus on clarity, proportion, and long-term performance.

A contemporary rural lifestyle home in North Canterbury, designed for an exposed site with long-range hill views and strong consideration of shelter and wind.

This recently completed concept reflects our client’s preference for simplicity, durability, and an understated presence. Clean lines, a restrained material palette, and controlled proportions define the overall form. Mono-pitch roof structures establish a clear silhouette and guide natural light through the interior, while full-height glazing maintains a calm connection between inside and out.

A recessed entry introduces a subtle moment of shelter without interrupting the clarity of the façade.

The result is a quiet, deliberate composition with a clear and measured architectural intent.
